    Reset at Letterkenny...?

This is not always the case. I picked up a reset 002A a few years ago that had a paper serial tag attached in roughly the same location that Letterkenny attaches it's metal tags. The reset had been performed by a civilian defense contractor and all documentation from the reset referred to that...

    Finally Joined The MEP Family

I was watching those MEP's at Fort Drum myself with an eye toward upgrading from my current depot rebuilt 003A and 002A, but quickly lost interest when the prices got ridiculous. At those prices, I certainly hope that nobody ends up with a non-runner.

    MEP-003 update

Not needed. Stick your fuel hose right into whatever container of fuel you want to draw from. John

Upgrading my electrical feeds and controls

Tables 4 and 5 of Chapter 9 cover the calculation of conduit fill percentage. I calculated the area of four #6 THHN conductors from Table 5 as being .2028 square inches (.0507 per conductor). Table 4 shows a total area of 1.986 square inches for 1.5 inch schedule 40 PVC and 1.711 square inches...

Upgrading my electrical feeds and controls

Jerry, I will have to break out my NEC to confirm, but I believe that the maximum conduit fill percentage at this ampacity and driving any inductive loads (think motors) is limited to around 35 percent or so. I'll check the NEC later today. John

Upgrading my electrical feeds and controls

SOOW in conduit would be a code violation in most areas. It is meant to be exposed to the air for cooling. THHN generally carries a higher temperature rating than SOOW, so it has the added benefit of supporting more amperage than typical SOOW for a given conductor size. For example, most THHN is...

    Mep-002a Recommended Spares List?

I also have a second generator, but I'll probably sell of the 002A now that I have acquired an 003A recently. IIRC, the brand new control box I acquired for about $200 on GL and the refurbished reconnection boxes cost me about $100 or so each. I bought a few of them as a lot out of OKC and my...

Just purchased MEP-002A - Rent our home - suggestions on best way to use?

I use a CEP power distribution box for portable operation. It gives me multiple GFCI protected receptacles. New ones are expensive, but used ones on Fleabay are generally reasonable. They are available with either locking receptacles or standard receptacles. They are approved by UL for this...

Need help 003a in previously perfect condition stopped producing power.

Jerry, Are you getting 24 volts DC on the separate cannon plug going to the field flash diodes??? John

    Mep-002a Recommended Spares List?

I have really gone overboard. I have a complete, brand new control box with all the gauges, relays and AC VR board in it. I also have a couple of completely rebuilt AC Reconnection Boxes that were fully refurbished with new parts at OSMS Oregon. John

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

There can only be two possible explanations for the fact that you are now producing power after changing the diodes at A4. Either the diodes were already intermittently bad and they happened to operate properly during the battery test, or there is an intermittent issue at the VR circuit board...

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

Radio Shack lists a few different diodes from the 1N400x series, apparently topping out around 1N4004. The inventory finder for the Radio Shack's in my area all list the packages of 1N4004's as being in stock, so I guess this is a commonly stocked part at most (all???) Radio Shack's. Radio Shack...

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

On second look, at least one of those diodes appears to have its markings completely scorched away. Just change them. I'll try to find a part number for you when I get in tonight, unless someone else comes up with it. John

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

Part numbers or similar identifying markings should be legible on the remaining diodes, although you will probably need a magnifying glass. Alternatively, someone here on this board may have already done this research and identified the diodes, but a quick search I just made did not turn up...

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

The successful test with the battery, as outlined in the -34, proves a problem with the VR circuit board. If you have a decent meter that includes a capacitance test function, you can probably easily test the board components yourself. Absent such a meter, you can also examine the components...

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

Pull the cover from the side of the AC Reconnection box. The terminal block in question is literally just inside the box and probably the easiest area to work with. Locate position 5 and 6 on that terminal block. Disconnect the upper wire at 5 and 6. These go up to the VR circuit board. Wire up...

Latest generator acquisition/upgrade out of Fort Drum

Jerry got back to me, but did not have a fuel cap. I ordered one out of Erik's Military Surplus. John

New Member/Western North Carolina RE: MEP 003A

Sounds like a problem with the IP to me. IIRC, the return fuel from the injectors to the day tank is under fuel pump pressure and is independent of IP pressure that only the nozzles respond to. John

Latest generator acquisition/upgrade out of Fort Drum

Thanks for the heads up, Mike. I'll PM Storeman to see if he has one, then turn to Erik's if not. John

Latest generator acquisition/upgrade out of Fort Drum

Many of you folks know me from my initial adventures a couple of years ago with a depot-rebuilt MEP-002A. After being away from SS for about a year (Life gets hectic sometimes), I became active again a few weeks ago as I closed in on my two year search for just the right MEP-003A. A recent lot...
