    Lockout hubs

GM and Jeep both used the axle disconnect with good results, but these are not hub locks. They disconnect the "drive" to the steering wheels to make steering easier. Fuel mileage got a slight boost due to lack of "loading" front axle. Hubs need both sides on steering axles because of friction...

Oh boy...Yet another 700R4 swap thread

You will need the drain hole drilled out larger behind front seal, and a keeper installed on the seal, if this hasn't already been done. A new pump bushing is always a good idea, and a good quality external cooler. From '90 to '93 I was the trans guy in a large GM dealership. Most of the...

    My GMC, a little update

My apologies, Gunfreak. I was in the hospital for a minor surgery, and forgot all about it when I got out. I will try to get some in the mail to you tomorrow. If you hadn't posted, I may never have remembered. Oh the joys of getting older!

    My GMC, a little update

PM me and tell me where to send them. I have hundreds, how many do you need? They will just end up in the scrap pile, anyway. I would rather see someone get some use out of them.

    Fuel Draining back

Electric pumps can bleed back if there is trash in the check valve inside the pump. It is usually better to install a quality pre-pump filter to avoid this. I get at least 1 a month that this is the problem. Leon

    water leaking

More than likely it's the hearer core.

    Storm Brewing

You could blow out a seal or gasket very easily like that. even with only a couple of psi. IMHO, you would be better off taking a chance on getting a little water in the diffs. If you blow out a pinion seal, it will leak at speed and could burn up a third member, wheel bearings, etc.

    Storm Brewing

I second that, but re-tighten after fording. Be safe. Fording is probably more dangerous than riding out the storm. I'll be praying for your, and everyone's, safety. Leon

    Need some help please..

There are many brands available. I think Napa sells a good one, if I remember correctly. Just make sure it is for diesel engines and comes with several adapters. You may have to manufacture your own adapter, or order one for that particular engine. I think they cost about $60 or $70. You may be...

Safe Driving Speed and Tire Size on M939 Series Trucks

The answer is in the Goodyear link provided above. If you click on load and inflation information, a pdf file will open and give you all the information you want on this subject, including a new maximum load capacity if you are going over the speed rating. In short, the speed rating and max...

    Need some help please..

Compression test time. Takes 2 people or a remote starter switch. Only let compression "hit" 3 times before stopping. Use other cylinder readings for comparison. Test with all injectors removed.

How to: Disassembly of the GMC air compressor

Sometimes the expander ring is hard to compress when new. I would not reuse old oil rings because the set helps to hold the piston straight in the cylinder. try taking a large hose clamp (pinion type) and using it to compress the oil rings prior to installation. Another thing, did you use a...

New EPA Regulations On Large Truck Emissions

Having worked in the oilfield for many years, I can assure you that it is not the oil companies slowing down production. A drilling permit is taking between 20 and 30 months to be processed. That would not be a problem had it always been that way, but that all started with this administration...

    Intermitent starter.....

Stihl029, you have either a bad starter drive or the starter shaft has rust not allowing the starter drive to fully engage. Since the starter motor is running you know the solenoid is functioning. Pull the starter, check that starter drive will not turn both directions as you move it by hand. If...

Hello From The Texas Hill Country!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am planning on getting several more MVs in the future, but this welder has my attention right now. It has the 4A084-3 Hercules Military Standard engine on it. I have never owned anything with that particular engine before, and I like it. The heater, I got going...

Engine stops running at a half tank

If the in-tank pump has been replaced previously, the hose connecting it to the pick-up tube can be loose, (not tightened properly) causing it to bypass when the weight of the fuel around the connection is reduced. I have run into this often.

Hello From The Texas Hill Country!

Hello Everyone, I live in the Texas Hill Country, in a small rural area. I see that my state is well represented here. I have a few smaller Military items. A Libby welder with the 4A084 Hercules engine, a 400,000 btu Hunter heater that is diesel driven and trailer mounted. I have had a few...
