I've got a completely torn down trans in my garage in a couple Rubbermaid bins. When it was in the truck it wouldn't shift passed 2nd gear. I took it out and had a trans shop look at it. They quoted me $2500 to fix it. That's why it's still torn down. It would be great to rebuild it myself and...
There really wasn't that much overspray dust on the floor. I do plan on doing another coat though. I had 3 gallons of Behr Premium Plus. That was enough to do 1 coat on the cab, outside of the box, and most of the undercarriage parts. It's gonna need another coat or 2 before I put the stars and...
Well, here goes nothing. I picked up some Behr in Thorny Branch. Thanks for the color USMC. I tested it on my glove box door and it looks great. I went with flat. A good friend is gonna help me prep on Sunday morning. I'll take some pics. And I may try a time lapse video of the process. I'll...
I cleaned up some more data plates yesterday. Mine were in pretty good shape to start with.
I cleaned them with soapy water.
And then sprayed 3 coats of clear lacquer.
Got a car show coming up in Flint MI on June 27th at the Sloan Museum. Just found out today that they are having a special...
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who chose the G749 to be my first rebuild project. I agree with you on the trans. I would really love to rebuild my old one. I think it's possible. I did get the carb info. Thank you. I'll be ordering one of those this fall when summer driving and parade season...
I will do my best to keep this post updated henderson. BTW, thank you for all of the great info you've posted. Here's the pic of that poor 211 being transformed. At least the trans and fenders went to a good home!
I'm not condoning bobbing but here is a pic I found a while back. I think its on...
I've done quite a bit of work on it in the past few years. I'm just terrible at keeping up with this thread. Unlike yourself, plowboy, henderson, and gunfreak. I did have to find a new trans for my truck. The one that was in it wouldn't shift past second gear. It would try but it couldn't...
another update with some pics
I've wanted to remove the inner wheels and tires on my 211 for a while. Partially because I like the way it looks and also because some of my tires were in pretty bad shape. I got a chance to spend some time with an old Army mechanic and he helped me with the...
I thought the GoPro logo at the beginning of the video would have given it away but just so everyone knows I did not strap my 5 year old under my truck. Just mounted my camera under there. All the extra holes make finding a spot pretty easy. Let me know if you guys want to see any other angles...
I've always wanted to get video of the underside of the truck while going down the road. So I strapped my 5 yr old underneath there and told him to hold the camera real steady. I think he did a pretty good job!

Took my 211 to pick up supplies for a fun filled weekend of landscape work. Snapped this at my local sod farm while grabbing some new grass. I also picked up about a thousand lbs of rock on the same trip. I love how this thing rides with some weight in the back. It really settles that heady duty...
What was the price on that Walker carb kit? Does it come with everything needed to re-do a carb that is working but needs some TLC? I redid mine about 2 years ago but it was the first carb I have ever worked on. I plan to take it apart again this winter. That will be the second time I've worked...
Took the 211 to a local car cruise tonight. I couldn't believe this guy parked next me. Glad to have summer back. Looking forward to putting some more miles on the old girl. I may even finally get some new paint on her. I also ran it through the local Memorial Day parade with about 15 VFW...
The stud was definitely torqued down. I tore the whole compressor down per Gunfreak's previous post and rebuilt it. I think the problem may have been with the new gasket that I made that sits under the governor. I think the new gasket material was just much thinner than the old gasket. Either...
Problem Solved!!!
I am happy to report that my air compressor governor is fully functional. After removing it so many times to take it apart and check things out I decided to just take it apart while it was still on the compressor. So I removed the cover and then removed the brass adjustment...
Still no luck with the governor. I've added washers to try and increase the force of the main spring and I've tried all sorts of adjustments. I just called Brake Systems Inc. in Oregon to see if there was a modern replacement for it. But I'm pretty sure the only governor available these days is...
