Well I did notice that it's not tied down inside at all, but I had forgotten about it until Dan mentioned it just now... guess I should have checked it right before I left.
I did fix the flaps before I left... the first two pics were at the drmo yard. The way they had them, it would have acted...
Yea, that was fun... I used more diesel on flat ground fighting that head wind than I used anywhere else on the trip. Total I averaged almost 10mpg but I don't think I was getting much more than 5 or 6mpg there. Probably didn't help that the cargo cover was acting like a large sail!
I got a temp tage here in Oregon for $21. Their good for 10 days on heavy vehicles and you can get as many as you want. The only other permits I needed was in Nebraska and that was a fuel and trip permit that cost ~$50.
All of the other states didn't care as long as I had the Oregon temp tag...
Trip summary:
Recovery from Camp Dodge:
Was pretty painless other than having to wait around for about 45min for the Sgt. to get back from moving other equipment around. Once the paperwork was signed, we followed him to the lot where my truck was parked. I got lucky... it was right up front...
I haven't added it all up yet, but I would guestimate:
Fuel : ~200gal at ~$2.00/gal = ~$400.00
Hotel : ~$75.00/night for 3 nights = $225.00
Changing all fluids before I left Des Moines (engine, axles, trans, transfer)= ~$150.00
So the total was somewhere around $775.00 to $850.00... MUCH cheaper...
I just finished a 1800 mile recovery (Ft. Dodge, IA to Portland, OR) and ran my new M35 at ~52mph/2400rpm for about 12 hours a day for 4 days with no issues. I also averaged 9.8mpg. The only problem I had was that my a$$ was sore and numb by the second day and just got worse from there... still...
I made it back home on Sunday evening! I have been relaxing, enjoying being able to hear everything at a normal volume, and trying to rest my a$$... Springer seat or not, it's still sore sitting in one of these trucks for 9+ hours per day for four days.
I'll have pics tomorrow.
Yep, that was me! I couldn't hear anything at the time because the batteries in my hearing protection/2-way radio/surround amplifier had died and was left with a goofy looking pair of ear muffs. They seemed to drown out everything except low frequencys.
I do remember seeing the weasel though! I...
Does anyone know if PS-164 R7 (PS-164 Rev 7) synthetic oil is ok to use in the transmition? The only information I can find is that it's a SAE 50wt synthetic oil that is used in a lot of big rigs.
It hasn't taken any time as of yet... I'm leaving tomorrow. :-D I'll be sure to post updates along the way if I can. Probably no photos until I get back though.
Well, thanks to USMC deuce cpl's recovery, I have decided to do one to. From Des Moines, IA to Portland, OR... 1800mi!
As of right now I'm planing on heading out Thursday morning and spending the next 4 days driving back... about 450 miles per day, and taking almost the same route as USMC...
The TM's that refer to servicing/troubleshooting the breaking systems are 9-2320-209-20-3-2 (chapter 13), 9-2320-209-10-3 (chapter 14).
I love this site! Havn't posted much because every time I have a question, someone else has already asked it and gotten an answer!:-D
Yea. It's going to be a long trip but still cheaper than shipping. It doesn't hurt that I grew up in Des Moines, Ia and still have lots of friends/family there that I can stay at while I get the thing road-ready.
