Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

I thought of that, I don't think so. The Link is short of grabbing onto the cable but I wired it up after this happened anyway. One thing that I noticed was that the parking brake cable was rusted so bad that it seized. I never use the parking brake but if It did get hung up on something it...

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

Just wanted to update. I bought a welder and finished the job right before our last big snow storm. We use this truck to plow our road roughly 3/4 mile from our driveway though difficult terrain to a town plowed road. I consider the truck to be a family member, she has done amazing work. I...

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

O.K. I was thinking of longer bolts with flare nuts. Welding the nuts to whatever is left of the flange, at least then it would be removable. will send pics when done.

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

Thank you cucvrus. I have power right there. All I need to do then is rig up a 220v outlet for a welder. My only concern is that one of the lower ears is bent so I guess I need to make sure the backing plate is lined up right. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J120A using Tapatalk

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

I can't afford a new axle so I need options. One of my thoughts was to install new backing plate and leave out brake components and cap off the brake line at junction block then I at least would have three wheels with working brakes. Also the bearings are toast in wheel hub.

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

Have a set of NOS rear shoes, wheel cylinder, and used backing plate coming from Hillbilly Wizard. I did not realize how much work it is to get the drums off. When I said I had experience with rear shoes it was on my ford ranger. Just a bit different. I will search the tm' s for tourqe...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ah let's see... depends on definition of lately. Last summer replaced radiator also last week replaced glow plugs. Pretty boring I know but soon I will be doing some brake work. So not much really.

Went over some of the tm's to familiarize myself and am dumbfounded at the amount of info on this site. Very nice. Now that I have a "smart" phone I will be viewing this info more regularly.

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

Just tried to find this part- Backing plate 14068905. Apparently it is no longer made. I was thinking of trying Hillbilly Wizard unless I'm missing something. Seems odd that no one makes this part for such a common axle.

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

Wow. Thanks! What a relief. I'm going to do both sides with new shoes and yes, brake line is busted But no big deal. Any idea where I could get the part number for the backing plate? Thank you very much for setting my mind at ease.

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes

Busted Backing Plate for rear brakes. (With pics!) Hi all, it's been way too long. I found some brake parts lying in my driveway, then found this- I have a 1986 m1028. Anyone ever encounter this before? How hard a job to get a new backing plate installed? I have done most things myself on...

    Radiator question

Hi all, could not find this answer anywhere. I have a 1985 m1028 with a slight pinhole leak in the radiator, just looking at options for a replacement. Can I get away with a single core radiator and do away with the oil and tranny cooler lines? This truck is primarily used in winter warfare...

Today I found out my supposed m1008 is actually a m1028! No wonder I never got stuck plowing last winter.
