Sorry for not reporting back. Turned out mine was a blown wheel cylinder. Not long after I had posted, the other side started leaking. I replaced both front wheel cylinders, and no more oily wheels. It wasn't as difficult as I thought. As far as driving a heavy truck with brake problems, once I...
Both inside and outside. The outside streaks from the center of the rim, but the inside is plenty wet as well. I have a remote brake fluid reserve, if it has lost fluid it hasn't lost much. That being said, I work on aircraft, and it seems a drop of oil goes a long way to make a mess.
I have searched and come up empty. Both of my front wheels are coated with oil, but the drums seem to be dry. I thought I would ask the collective before I started ordering parts. Would this be as simple as drive hubs or should I be looking into wheel cylinders? I got the truck in April, noticed...
I have been working on engines for over thirty years, cars, trucks, tractors and even airplanes, I have never seen an engine you had to run before you checked the oil. I guess an old dog can learn new tricks after all. Did what you suggested and it shows about a quart low. Odd way of checking...
It is a new to me truck, I picked it up last week. I had checked to oil when I picked the truck up and it showed about half inch over full. I assumed the seller over filled it a bit, the truck had been run before I checked the oil. I finally got all the paperwork legal and was going to take it...
I had some questions about my oil pressure dropping down from 50 cold idol to 10 hot idol. After looking over the forum I think my truck maybe making oil. After driving it about 400 miles It is showing about 1 1/2" over the full mark. So, where should I start looking first or what seals should I...
I'm working on getting the truck legal right now. To pass inspection they're making put clearance lights on it, I think he is going to let me get by with no cab lights since it has a soft top. But, once I get the legal stuff done I think the EGT will be my next project. Well maybe filters and...
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I may have found one issue, I'm sure there will be more, I think the parking brake may have been dragging. The cable is froze at about 1/2 engaged. Installing new cable tomorrow.
Good to know the muffler is a non issue.
I didn't see any smoke when I was on the highway, the outlet on the stack is out of my vision. When l would make a rest stop it was making a little white smoke at idol.
The only time it would get close to 60 was going down hill. It would make 55 on flat...
Thanks for all the help. I may try tuning up the pump after I get an EGT gauge. Another question I have, do I need a fuel pressure gauge? I have one on my Cummings to check that the lift pump is making pressure. The Cummings will run with a week lift pump but will act like the fuel filter is...
