What's the best way to wire a 12v winch into my 5-ton?

As has been suggested, your best bet is to switch to a 24V motor. I have installed/used a number of electric winches over the last 35 years, on a daily basis, and I can tell you that the higher voltage is the way to go. Basically, the winch you have is considered a "recreational" winch which...

    PTO - on M880 series

Hey guys, I was hoping that some of you M880 Gurus would have posted on this by now. Need the part# for the transfer case PTO, if anyone has it, or if you have a good used one. Any help, as always, greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

    Five ton winch seal.

Your best bet may be to take the seal to a bearing supply house and let them match it up. Just make sure it doesn't have any OD green on it, as most of them will back away from it and tell you it is strictly a military part, not available to them. While this is true, in certain cases, it does...

    new military wrecker

Miller or Oshkosh one, landed a contract last year to build a number of wreckers for the Australian military. Is this one of them?

    Starter push button

Just how often are these switches failing ?? Sounds to me like you have other problems. All this switch does is send a small amount of current to energize the solenoid. It is not carrying the cranking voltage.

    Moving M246

Tell him he's hired ...........before he changes his mind(and the price).

    The ol' 246

You are correct, sir, it is only partly a manual operation, in the sense of removing the pin in the boom and installing, as best as I remember, a length of square tubing (which comes in two pieces) is assembled and actually lays in a short piece of angle which is welded just underneath and...

gas(602) to mulitfuel (LDS) conversion ????

RE: pics Hmmm.......obviously we have failed miserably, in our encourgement......Wade, you are going about this all wrong.......listen -listen to me/us....... :D the way this works is, you do NOT sell any of your toys..... you simply continue to amass as many as possible........ buy her some...

    The ol' 246

Unless there's a hole in the pan, block, etc., I would just about bet money, that this old girl will probably fire up. I've woke up more than several and it usually don't take much to make them go. I can't remember if anyone pointed this out, but the 2nd stage of the crane is extended...

gas(602) to mulitfuel (LDS) conversion ????

RE: motor mounts Wade, Have you posted pics of the wrecker you are looking at to buy? The Continental is a bulletproof engine, probably very little or nothing really wrong with it. If you can get this thing at a reasonable price, go ahead. You'll be glad you did. These old trucks...

gas(602) to mulitfuel (LDS) conversion ????

RE: motor mounts I've got to side with Jimmy on this one. Most any diesel is better than a gas. I have the R6602 and it is a strong, well built engine, BUT, I would rather have the LDS. The R6602 is more crisp and responsive, when running the crane, to me, anyway, but with all of the little...

Wrecker Owners, Stand up and be Recognized!

Hmmmmm......... I don't know if I like this poll.... the last time I was told to standup and be recognized was in school..... and I got in trouble!!! But, yes..... I have an M62.... uhhh... what are we being recognized for ???? (Got a feeling it's a trick question!!)

NDCC Tire Design --> Obsolete and Unsafe?

Traction is governed some, by tread design, but most of a tire's traction comes from its ability to conform to the ground. Just as in braking, it's all about how much of the tread face contacts the surface, be it asphalt or dirt. If you look at a heavy radial truck tire, properly inflated, on...

gas(602) to mulitfuel (LDS) conversion ????

RE: Re: RE: gas vs diesel Ken is correct. The "air solenoid" that is referred to is a "Rotochamber", simply a air cylinder that is specifically for disengaging the clutch, from the rear deck, with a hand valve, which is located right behind the drag winch. Therefore, it is of no need on a...

Adjusting Valves on gasser R6602....you da' man!!!!!!

RE: Adjusting Valves on gasser R6602....you da Steve, There is an art to "riding" the adjustment screw, and also they use to make a screwdriver, if you could call it that, which had a wide blade, probably about 5/8" wide which made it a lot easier. Daily experience also helps a lot. I...

    Lincoln and Wellannd M543

The R6602 is, to me, a much more smoother, responsive engine for running the crane, than the MultiFuel or others. After flat out, for about a mile, you can also actually PASS someone on interstate !!! LOL . This is, of course, the engine I have in my M62, and as gas engines go, I like it...

    10 Ton winch pics???

Does anyone know if this particular winch has a drum clutch which, when disengaged, will allow the drum to freewheel? Additionally, is this the same winch as found on the back of the wreckers ? Unfortunately, those have to be fed out under engine power. P.S. - You can always depend on Bjorn...
