    Got a Deuce! '62 M35A1

I just realized something after rereading yesterday posts. I'm that old fart who always tells some stupid story how things where in his day ! Crap it sucks to grow old ! but I guess it beats the alternative !

That "refreshing" your memory reminds me of a mechanic who tore down the brakes on a 60ft New Flyer bus. No one touched the job after he tore it down (he was a jerk !) since that is the easy part. Putting it back together is the hard part. Well he waited so long that he forgot how it went back...

I have some from the 1950's and they are still in good shape. I suppose if they where abused a lot then maybe. Just remember, rivets are not bad. Half our trucks are held together with old rivets.

David did your machine shop do this repair ? Looks really good.

We lost the brakes about 5 minutes before we saw the ramp coming up. He put the truck in second gear (Turbo 400) and was applying the park brake for all it was worth ! But with a 1952 REO pushing us down hill it wasn't doing much ! The way the truck was set-up was this. 1 ton dually extended cab...

My buddy and his girl friend and I where in a 1 ton GMC dually towing back a 1952 Studebaker REO 6X6 I had bought down in Oregon. Coming back we went through "Glacier Lake" area to avoid traffic. Coming down off the plateau we lost the brakes in the dually and had to use the escape ramp which...

e Take it from someone who has done it. It is not fun at all ! I would have crapped myself if I wasn't squeezing my butt cheeks so tight ! That's what they call the "sphincter" factor !

OK in David's defense he does not have easy access to DOT 5 fluid. He lives in the dry desert (no water issues) and he doesn't want to spend the extra money on DOT 5. I totally agree Dot 5 is the best for so many reasons, but you got to admit it is very expensive . I bought 5 gallons last month...

David. No one here wants to "bust your chops" about what your doing, but having said that we do want what is best for you. If you had really read up on DOT 3 versus DOT 5 you would see that DOT 5 is FAR superior then DOT 3. Not just because the military used it either. I'm telling you this from...

These are the bolts you want. You can get them at several places. Maibach Tractor supply has them in stock.

You might be able to save the hub. First take a good sharp punch and start making divets on the bearing surface ( at least 50 to a 100 ). All around the hub. Then using "Loctite bearing retainer" liberally apply this around the surface. Then put in the bearing race. Mechanics have used this...

David that is very bad ! If there is no movement up and down then the bearings are OK on the pinion shaft but you have totally lost your gear-lash. Which could be because the gears are wasted or the ring gear shaft bearings are gone. If your pinion gear and bearings and ring gear and bearings...

This is the old style of keeping the brake shoes free at the anchor pin. The felts would come saturated with grease and this would keep the other parts from freezing up with rust. In todays modern world we use "Anti-Seize". I still would use the felts if you can get them. I would use a silicone...

My father was a carpenter and I would help him out at times. Once I hit my thumb with a 22oz framing hammer (with the waffle pattern on the head) . Blood shot-out all over the place and I was not a "happy camper" !!! He told me and I quote "That will feel better once it stops hurting" . At this...

Does "steve6x6x6" have some conversion system to make the hubs oil instead of grease ? I thought he turned the whole axle on a lathe. Would be nice if he did have a conversion system or kit.

I like the old style turn signals. They are solid aluminum not plastic. Which means a stupid branch cannot break them ! In fact I have changed out all my turn signals to the old style. Including my M105 trailer. I bought the special red lenses form "Dr. Evil" for the back turn signals.

You could just sell everything and buy a better truck, but you won't have the satisfaction you would get by getting this one up and running. Also you will know how to fix any problems down the road as you have had to learn to rebuild all the parts now. This way this truck truly is "your" truck.

Most all "Semi Trucks" are 24 volt as are all transit busses. The reasons are many, the number one reason is starting. The 24 volt starter can spin over a cold diesel engine much easier then a 12 volt starter can.

I used to scuba dive off the south end of Whidbey Island. I drove my family over there through "Deception Pass" just last fall. It is a beautiful drive. My wife has gotten a bug about living on one of the islands lately. We have looked at "Orcas" and "San Juan" and "Bainbridge" islands. I prefer...
