I think so. Not totally sure. I took the float out and tested it's function while my wife started the gen. After that I was sure the float was ok. Reinstalled the float and made sure it seemed to have good clearance. Now all is good.I assume your float was twisted a little and the float was binding up against the side of the tank?
Hello, it throws the cb1 breaker. I have not tested the pump itself. This only happens when the fuel line is connected. When fuel line is connected to fuel drum it trips the breaker. When fuel line is not connected the aux pump will run when set to prime. You say it shorts out. Tell us WHAT it does when it Shorts out.
Have you tested the AUX fuel pump- Its simple. Un plug it. The plug has two pins. Apply 24 VDC to the two pins. It works or it arcs .
I'm sure I don't know more about this than you. Sorry about the wording, I came in to check your message then had to go right away. ThanksHello, it throws the cb1 breaker. Other than the Hello, this is just what I wanted to know. But I guess you know more about this than I. I wish you luck in the repair of this set.
Hello. Thanks so much for your help. The hose is the correct military hose. The genset is grounded. It's connected to the house. The ground wire goes into my transfer switch and then to house ground. I'm not sure about the second question. The input connects into the standard dip tube usually used with this set and into a 30 gallon steel drum sitting on the ground. Nothing else is hooked to the drumPerhaps I am just being a curmudgeon tonight. Old an in the way. Sorry too.
Is the gen set grounded?
Is the hose you connect to the Aux input fitting, and run to the Aux fuel source, a military hose? The reason I ask is that the military hose has braided steel wire in it. The brass fittings on the ends of the hose screw into the hose, and make contact. So the hose can in theory, conduct voltage. Is the end that goes to the fuel source, the input fitting, insolated from the fuel tank? Or is anything else hooked to the tank?
Take the end off the fuel source, Put the S1, (start switch) in the AUX prime position. Take the free end of the hose and touch something that is grounded. CB1 pop? If not, then touch the hose to the fuel inlet fitting on the fuel source. CB1 pop?
Take care of those ribs! Good luck. Thanks everyone for your help so far. I have not been able to work on my generator, too busy. I will be back at it on Saturday
Sorry about that. It wasn't solved, I just didn't get to it. I will disconnect the AUX fuel pump and try. I have decided not to use AUX fuel as I don't use the generator enough to store a lot of fuel. I also don't really have much else that uses diesel fuel either.Hello. I am having this problem again. I solved (Ignoring a problem is not solving it) it before by just not using the aux tank. I think it is still the dual float as I can push in the breaker and it will run on the house tank no problem. Sometimes, (what means sometimes? How often? Was the set fuel tank full, empty, half full?) when I turn the dial back past the aux fuel indicator it throws the breaker. (If the tank is low enough, then the FL1-FL2 float system tells the AUX fuel pump to run, so if this in fact is happening, its not the floats fault. Take the AUX fuel pump out, and test it. Hook it up to 24 volts and see if it pumps, and pumps enough.) Can I just disconnect the duel float and use the house tank only? (If you do this, why unhook the FL1-FL2? If you do that, then the set will simply empty the set tank and run out of fuel. And then you will have to purge the fuel system to get air out every few hours. Perhaps you need to get in the -10 TM and read about how the fuel system works. ) Any reason not to do this? (Yes)
Here's a little more history. The generator ran fine for years until I bought a 55 gallon drum auxiliary tank and tried to pump fuel from it. I replaced the dual float with a brand new one from a member here. It seems to me the most likely culprit now is the auxiliary fuel pump. (Try this. Disconnect the AUX fuel pump. Then start the set. Move S1 back and forth between normal run and AUX pump. Does CB1 pop? Or not?) Any thoughts?
