The plug for the field and exciter wires was bad. Cut it off and used spades (new plug on order). Charging 12.5V at idle and 14V with some throttle. Should I be getting more volts at idle? I need to check if the pulley size is the same on a stock alternator versus this civilian version on...
I got another alternator but I'm still not charging. The diagram was used just for the purpose of showing what voltages I am getting and where.

The voltages all check out per your description; just a little less. Bulb and fuse are good but I will have to check the diode because I...
MY 1009 has been converted to 12v by the Roscommon method. The passenger side alternator has been converted to a civilian 6.2L setup with brackets and an internally grounded standard civilian alternator. The alternator was not charging last week so I put a new one on it. It appears to me that...
I think I need to clarify because I did not explain it well in my initial post. The lights are on but they will not blink. I will update my original post.
I cleaned and verified the grounds at the lights first thing but I am not sure what you mean by the socket. Do you mean for the bulb, blinker at fuse block, or some connector in the harness, etc.? Sorry but I am slowly learning about these electrical issues.
I have slowly worked my way thru most of the electrical gremlins in the M1009 but I'm confused on this one:
Lights off: Blinkers on both sides work perfectly, no issue
Lights on: Blinkers on driver side work as they should, Passenger side is on but will not blink and the blinker makes no...
After several hours with the wiring diagrams and looking at the PO's wiring......the truck starts!
Cranked her up and immediately smoke is pouring from the idle temperature switch/sensor (passenger side, down low). The plug is burned up and the end of the switch/sensor is burned off. I...
I did notice one thing on the batteries which looked strange to me but could be perfectly fine. Both (-) connect to the (-) bus bar and then another 4 gauge wire connects it to the engine. The (+) on both batteries connect together and then to the (+) bus bar. This all seems fine for the 12...
I don't know. When I turn the switch nothing on the dash lights up. I wonder if a wire was left loose during the conversion or maybe a bad switch. I am going thru the TM's and plan to diagram the system tomorrow but I thought someone might have run into this before. I will check the relay...
Hello all, I haven't been on here in a while because I sold my old M1009 but I am afraid I have bought a basket case that I thought I could fix. Price was right so I rolled the dice and I need some help.
Previous owner converted to 12 volt and push button glow plug switch. Not real sure what...
Hey guys, I have been SS a while and have bought, sold and drove a lot of US iron but I am starting the search for a Unimog. I guess I'm just looking for something new and different. I plan to travel all over the Southeast to Civil War battle sites and camp from the vehicle. I know hotels are...
I have two M1009's and I am thinking about adding the Banks Sidewinder kit to both of them. I see that there are several models to choose from. I am assuming we have the HD version of the 6.2L but I just wanted someone to confirm it for me.
The tailgate on my M1009 has several rust issues and I want to replace it. Where should I buy the tailgate? I see that several places sell them from Ebay to LMC, but I don't want a cheap chinese part. I don't mind paying more for it but I want to make sure I am getting a quality part. I will...
