thanks ray for the push in the right direction. the mep003a is currently in storage and won't be disturbed for a while yet ... i am in the studying/learning (hopefully) stage right now. as for shims, years ago i bought a new injection pump along with a kit containing buttons and a set of 4...

    missing shims on mep-003a

years ago i bought, sight unseen, a mep-003a which, as it turned out, was missing the injection pump and shims. so how does one measure or calculate the shims needed? please point me in the right direction if this has been previously discussed. thank you, peyton

    Mep-003

Around here (Houston) the utility company is replacing our meters with so-called "smart meters" and, far from subsidizing them, is charging us $3+ per month for them. This is probably the wave of the future for a lot of us so beware ... yoiur meter based transfer switch may have to be changed...

    Do genset work?

Katrina is the perfect example of the "major catastrophe" where there is nothing you can do (except evacuate) to prepare. The Miss coast was swept clean with nothing remaining except cement slabs for distances up to 1/2 mile inland with major damage much further than that ... no infrastructure...

    Do genset work?

a couple of thoughts If you have natural gas service, your best bet might be a good natural gas unit. After a hurricane, fuel is a major problem but the gas supply is not likely to be interrupted barring some major catastrophe. Propane is also a good choice if you have storage and have it...

here is a source for used mep002/003 parts

Someone, me included, is always looking for something for their sets. In my case, I needed a set of injector lines, some shrouding and some other small stuff. I found it with Tom (didn't get his last name), in Baytown, TX, who has a dozen or so 002s and 003s he is parting out at very reasonable...

Gas to Diesel generator modification info?

Don't the mep-016, both gas and diesel, use the same genend? ... requiring that both run at 3600rpm? I seem to recall that many of the 3kw gas sets were converted to diesel by the military. The following is from description in TM 12359A-OD/B *************************************** The 2kW...

    mep-16a problem

What brand of gas tank sealer did you use? It didn't work for me but maybe you have a better sealer. Mine was a POR product. Glad it worked for youi ... hope for the rest of us. Peyton

    mep-16a problem

Those carbs give nothing but trouble with modern, alcohol added, gasoline. The floats are a foam material which will swell and stick against the float bowl sides. Maybe open, maybe closed or somewhere in between. Tried sealing them with gas tank sealer but it didn't work. I'm converting mine to...

    rebuilding a mep003 voltage regulator?

Thanks for reminding me of the power of google. I did a search on "removing conformal coating" and found a wealth of info including a formula for a polyurethane or epoxy coating remover. I had been thinking of using a heat gun but if the ingredients for the formula are easily obtainable I'll...

    rebuilding a mep003 voltage regulator?

Re: RE: Re: RE: rebuilding a mep003 voltage regulator? You might get lucky on eBay but my *limited* experience indicates that certain engine hard parts ...injection pump, pump solenoid, lines and injectors ... are difficult and/or expensive to find. Probably everything in the AC control box as...

    rebuilding a mep003 voltage regulator?

Re: RE: rebuilding a mep003 voltage regulator? Yeah. I was hoping someone might know of a solvent. I think it's polyurethane and it's a fairly thin film. Breadboarding will probably be much easier but won't look quite right. Still, I need to get it going. Peyton

    rebuilding a mep003 voltage regulator?

Anybody done it? It's a pretty simple circuit and the parts wouldn't cost much so it wouldn't be too difficult *if* the encapsulating compound is fairly easy to remove. Otherwise it might be easier to breadboard it. Does anyone know a good solvent for the compound that won't eat the board as...
