Fixed. Turned out removing the broken piece was the easy part of all. -disconnect battery's -remove weels -remove shocks (wanted to replace them anyway) -jack up body (you dont need much but just enough to remove the starter) I bought a new 4 mm drill bit and my 80 year old neighbour happened...

The support bracket is still on there, so is the original heat shield.. How do I tell the difference between a direct drive starter or a gear reduction starter?

Hopefully all are found in the driveway, imagine it had fallen off somewhere on the parking lot of a supermarket. ;) Would never have noticed it until my really bad day started showing itself :-(

Did a quick check on the starter with a flashlight and there is indeed a bolt missing so that mystery is solved. Any hints on removing the leftover part? (Thanks Scoutdoors1000 for the hint, we posted at the same time) Patracy, what the relation with a possible broken block?
