My truck sat for a couple weeks without being started, I went to turn it on today, I gave it 10-15 seconds of glow plug and it started within 2 seconds of cranking. I let it idle for 15 minutes, revved it up a few times, it ran great. Then I turned the key off and IMMEDIATELY turned it back...
Ok, I did the doghead mod and it works great. Thanks for the advice. Next thing is when I turn the key the starter spins but does not engage with the flywheel, I can here it and it sounds like it spins nice and freely but it just doesnt go out to meet with the flywheel. Did I just burn through...
Here is a pic or the relay, it looks just like the old one only shinier. The starter is from DB Electrical and is 24v and made for the cucv's, even said so on their page. I did ALL of the electrical work with the batteries disconnected and did not cross any wires.
I do not understand how a...
Replaced the under dash relay with the one I ordered from CUCV Electric. To my understanding that is the same thing at the doghead relay mod? I do not have a battery quick disconnect, but since this is happening I was thinking of it. The starter is not even 24 hours old, and it works as it...
My starter keeps sticking and its pissing me off. Just put the new gear reduction starter in yesterday, had put in a new relay (CUCV Electric) before that. The starter work a few times without sticking, but then just started to. Now I cant reconnect the batteries because the starter engages...
I have know clue, nor did the guy who was going to rebuild it.. He said he's never seen something like that. It ticks me off because the starter worked great when I gave the truck to the mech. to install the I.P.
Ok, first of I HAVE searched this forum and read up on this but I'm still confused.
My starter on my M1008 went out while a diesel mech. was installing the new I.P. (he insists that he did not miss-treat the starter) I took it to a local shop to rebuild it because I know thats the best thing...
All very good upgrades! Id be very interested in the troop seats, although we are too far away from each other to make a deal
Good luck and keep us updated on the progress!
Not to change the subject of this thread, but I've seen you're profile picture on here a few times before and have always wondered if you have noticed a reduction in torque with those tall tires? Say pulling something from a dead stop with the tall tires over stock ones? Of course I'm unsure if...
My main concern is to not get rear ended by a 'distracted' driver doing 75mph. I trust my 1008 to protect me in the case of an accident, but Im unsure if I can control my own actions after the fact
Hey guys, Im hoping to be getting my M1008 out of the shop this week. I will be going to Crystal Lake, IL on the 29th of this month to visit family. I would really enjoy taking the 1008 there. It would be my very first out of town trip with it.
Im just wondering about the whole 50-55 top...
Im no diesel expert either but I was sure that unburnt fuel is the black smoke diesel engines produce. I usually associate white/light smoke with burning oil. Just my 2cents
Well the dash in my 86 M1008 is beyond repair or covering up, so I'm just going to get a new one. I refuse to buy one from LMC, crazy expensive!
So I did a little searching and found one on Summit Racing and one on Tuckers Classic auto.

While my M1008 is in the shop I'm going to get a Tiny Tach, ordering straight from their website.
Which one do I need? DTL-6 or DTL-1/4? (see pic)
And when I order, does it come with everything I need to hook it up or do I need to make a run to the store for some extra stuff?
Thanks for the...
Hey guys, Im looking to get my first Deuce. And I just got some quick questions.
I know that the C turbo is nick named "the whistler" which is great, I love that turbo sound! But I've read that the D turbo makes slightly more power, which I like even more!!
So, which do you prefer more? C or...
