How I moved the 803 to the rear yard ALONE.

The tree’s just in front of the chimney to the right. I braced the front end of the trailer with a couple of boards, pulling them out as I transferred the weight of the 802 forward onto it with the comealong ratchet. Just in case anyone’s looking into options for moving theirs in future.

How I moved the 803 to the rear yard ALONE.

I brought mine home on a 4x8 folding trailer, one of those Harborfreight specials I'd bought off a neighbor years ago, registered in Maine and used to haul home an ATV, among other things. While the 803 was heavy, it was a few hundred pounds below the upper safety limit for the trailer. I...

    Resurrecting Oily Brake Shoes

JC Whitney and many other places used to sell kits for this. Good old fashioned mesothelioma-producing asbestos-bearing linings with rivets and you'd just drill, rivet and replace and drive on. I'd figure with the number of these trucks produced, and, industry being what it is, those pads...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Finally got around to starting a project I’d put off for a year - almost two - refinishing a set of x-doors. Fronts had been painted desert sand/tan fr some reason, I have a set of light steel armor plate I’m still not 100% decided on attaching. Got some glass, miscellaneous screws/fittings...

    Kent-Moore V-belt tensioner J-7316

Got it. Well, not really, but close. Phone number for Kent-Moore (aka „Automotive Service Solutions... Kent-Moore“ aka „Bosch Tools“ as identified when I connected to a person) is 1.800.345.2233 Turns out the part J-7316 IS in their computer, for „Heavy Duty Truck“ use, but it was superceded...

    Kent-Moore V-belt tensioner J-7316

Happened to come across one of these - came in a „box o‘ tools“ I bought a few years ago, never needed it until recently when I changed out my generator, PS pump, belts, etc. Using one of the little „klickit“ devices is awkward, hard to read, so I remembered this gadget and pulled it outta the...

    6.5 engine swap

For an idea of how many after market and OEM parts ARE available for 6.2L diesel motors, surf on over to the forbidden auction side (fleabay) and do a search for "6.2L diesel motor/engine/parts/rebuild/etc". There's only been several million Detwah (Detroit) diesels manufactured in the past...

    California PG&E outage + generators 10102019

I’ve been using a Honda EU1000i generator for over 5 years on camping trips, lately - past 2-1/2 years - about 4-6 times a year to my farm in TN while I do construction, infrastructure, etc, running it as much as 24 hours a day 5 days in a row. Got it for running small electronics, as the...

Where to buy electric components to fix M998/HMMWV PCB boxes?

I tinkered around with electronics in HS. I was a roadie for a music store, we provided sound equipment for small clubs and larger venues for bands like Spooky Tooth, Humble Pie, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, more. Fun times. I built several digital electronic gadgets, radios, Heathkit and...

    fuel filter change

I have a pair of small - like 5” - vise grip pliers. Got ‘em as a set. The rounded ones hold the damper control rod in place on my fireplace insert - ‘cause we kept forgetting to close it once the box got up to operating temp - the other, more like a pair of needle-nose pliers I use around the...

what is this junk in the fuel cannister?

Cyanobacteria, aka "blue-green algae". Eat diesel, gas. Stuff's everywhere. Good article here: http://www.boatcoachbob.com/articles-boat-maintenance/engines-inboard/prevent-remove-diesel-algae/

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I did when I dropped my tank, cleaned it, changed the sender, gasket and filler hose, and THAT thing. WHAT a bear to get it onto the pickup tube. Took more effort than I’d expected sanding/buffing, pressing it into place. When I die, heaven will be me punching engineers in the face all day...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Any particular make/model you recommend? Please don’t say Snap-on. If I had my life to live over again, I would’ve started buying snap-on tools at yard sales/flea markets when I was 20. Now? This close to retirement I can’t justify the price for the amount of use I might get and my kids just...
