Who would have that hardware readily available? I presume you mean the short shaft and u-joints.
Also, when you say chain fall, you mean lowering it down instead of using the transmission jack?
Ok, I've got to replace the transfer case in my Deuce... Had the usual grinding, noice, pops out of gear etc... When changing the oil, found rather large chunks of metal that appear to be casings from a bearing...

What you describe sounds like what my brother has on his deuce. The difference being he has all of the windshield washer system intact. Though in my humble opinion, with the military wipers, it's a joke.
One thing to consider with the in this type of sittuation. You might consider bleading your entire system thoroughly to ensure any moisture from condensation of the empty lines as well as any particles from the bad MC that might have gotten through are removed from the system.
