The tranny that i use in my sled pulling trucks uses a 4x4 hd case all the internals from a th475 which was used in motorhomes - it has straight cut gears in it - the th 475 only used a 2x4 case but most of the time had a large parking brake mounted on the tailshaft
Gm put the turbo 400 in cars and trucks thru out the 1970's buick, pontiac, olds, cadilac included. 1977 was the first year for the turbo 400 to be used in a 4x4 truck - and the 4x4 case with cast aluminum bolt on dust cover...........................open up any gm truck service manual/parts...
LOTS OF STRESS WHEN LOCKED IN 4LOW,THE PROBLEM WITH THE 2X4 CASE ALSO IS IT CANNOT BE MOUNTED CORRECTLY WITH THE STRUT RODS GOING TO THE ENGINE MOUNTS.
I AM INTO SLED PULLING WITH ONE OF MY TRUCKS - I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF CARNAGE . ANOTHER SOLUTION IS AFTERMARKET STEEL BELLHOUSING FOR ADDED...
I have seen a hd case in a 2wd also - but not oem from gm/chevrolet. Even motorhomes /or a p chassis as they are called did not use a hd case. A divorced np 208 - now that there is funny - seen them custom built for mud racing. Good point - i bought a used 1989 v3500 4x4 and someone had...

You need a 4l80e 4x4 tranny. The np 205 had a speedsensor in the tailshaft section - 1991 v 3500 series models only.. You also need the correct adapter i have photos in another post. The strut rod - torque rod is longer on this combo. The 4x4 shift lever is angled different - so without the...
For oil cooler i have a oem factory unit out of a 1986 suburban - it mounts in front of the radiator and is a bolt on unit - no holes to drill. I also kept the m1028 fuel tank as it has a very large filler neck makes filling up with gas very fast and easy
the mounts ,brackets etc are slightly different -it will bolt in useing any of the v8 mounts . i changed the rubber mounts and used 454 rubber mounts and buckets and that was it .i can send you more photos if needed. i also had hose bushings/adapters made to keep the diesel radiator -...
