If you watch the pyrometer you can get the hang of how long you can keep your foot in it. It's still risky, even if you don't mess with the pump adjustments. The marine injectors are big, and I don't have the hole size specs besides they are 5 hole and for a 480 hp 8.3. That's 480 with a 12mm...
Yes, go with bigger injectors if you aren't satisfied with the freebie adjustment, or you want to start with big power.
just adding marine injectors will get some pretty good gains if you don't want to mess with the pump.
It wasn't posted here, I don't believe. The owner of the 923 that I took the videos of (many pages back on this thread) is the one that did the testing. I don't have access to one here to play with and experiment on. My concept is to use a bigger intake tube, and use a big rig filter and housing.
The air filter tests have been done. The conclusion was the size of the air filter (needs more surface area).
I can't afford to give out a set of those. I barely break even when I do sell em.
Differences in power: upping the fuel adjustment, about 270hp. Adding marine injectors on no pump...
Star wheel doesn't have to be adjusted if you are going to adjust the fuel screw on top. If you adjust only the star wheel, the EGT may possibly go up 20 degrees.
For one degree, you can try to rotate the pump for the advance. They do timing just like the 5.9(bust the gear loose, and reset it), and some dont even have timing marks on the crank.
For an even cleaner burn, you can run P-pump injectors. Not saying to get the 480hp marine injectors, but...
The 22* is only if you can rev up past 3k. On a regular 8.3, I wouldnt go over 3-4* of advance, and 16 is decent. Most of what I mess with is a DT466, which is a very similar setup as these(almost identical pumps). The low end torque really suffers with timing of 20 or higher. On the flip side...
Yes, I would go to pulloff for good info on the 8.3's big end performance. There's lots of guys with them in pullers. My injection shop guy wasnt liking the idea of running them with an MW pump. Performance speaking, the MW has a tendency to lose the connector link that keeps the lifters...
They will add some decent power, but not like it would with the fuel rate adjusted. I have a part number for the marine injectors, but have not got any specs for which pump they are meant for. I just know it's not for a Ppump.
A 50 would work at max fueling, but still may need slightly bigger injectors. You will probably need intercooler one way or the other. The better you can keep it cool, the less stressful it is driving it.
