    cucv earning its worth

People get stuck around here all the time. I usually stop and ask if they have tow points. A lot of new vehicles don't have anywhere to hook up safely, so I say sorry... not touching a vehicle with no tow points. Call a tow truck.

    6.2 diesel power

I've never had any problems with the 6.2's power. Makes me wonder what you are basing your opinion on. These trucks are dogs in 2wd on the street. Drop it into 4 low off the beaten path and you might think you have a whole new truck. Put some gear reduction behind the 6.2 to see it really shine.

Weird ticking near oil pan/bell housing m1008/1028

Ahhh, sounds like loose torque converter bolts.

Weird ticking near oil pan/bell housing m1008/1028

    Could be an exhaust leak

    Rim and tire set up

I'm running 15/42/15 super swampers. Anyone who says the 6.2 is way under powered with big tires doesn't know what they are talking about. Its all about gear ratio and how to use it, wheel speed isn't everything. 4 low makes it a whole different beast.

    Smoke from Dipstick Tube

You don't have to replace it. Blast it with WD-40 until its clean. You've probably heard of a PCV valve, same idea. The only thing its going to hurt is your power and use more oil than normal, it won't cause any catastrophic failure. You'll probably find your truck runs a whole lot better once...

    CV Joint on Front Driveshaft

If you are lifting your truck you probably need a longer shaft anyways. I got a brand new custom length drive shaft built for 275$ and made the mistake of re-using the old double cardan. Get it rebuilt while its in the shop. If there isn't any play in that CV joint its ok for now, but it will...

    Cucv front end shaking problems

Steering stabilizers only hide the real problems. A few things to check- Get the tires checked out and balanced should be the first step. Tighten every castle nut you can find on the front end, make sure it has a cotter pin. Jack truck up, push on the wheels to check for play in the tie rod...

    a lot of oil everwhere

Turn the truck on and just watch underneath it until it drips and start from there. Oil will get sprayed everywhere when driving, hard to say where its coming from just looking at the spray, **** near impossible.

    block heaters

Im running battery blankets and a freeze plug heater. The coldest I've started it yet was at -12 on the first crank. Another combination I hear about is trickle chargers plus block heaters. I tried a trickle charger, but it didn't seem to help. I like being able to feel stuff actually working...

    coolant expansion tank

My grandpa used a high temperature epoxy to fix a dish washer leak once. Might work for hot coolant as well. I would just get a new tank though.

    just bought '86 m1008

37's probably wont work without modification. You risk stuffing the tire into the fender going over bumps which can slice it open. It might also rub on steering components. Another thing to worry about is the 'fang' on the steering box. If you stuff the tire into it, it grips and rips the box...

    6.2 ticking noise?

I would guess exhaust leak as well. This would be the easiest to fix, always start easy... exhaust leaks can be deceiving little bastards.

    m1009 4wd help

Nobody has even mentioned bearings. Who knows how long it sat dry, I bet you every single bearing in the front axle is hopelessly seized up. Pinion is probably shot too, unbolt the drive shaft and give the yoke a tug, I bet you it wiggles around in the housing too.

    awesome gas

Dang, thats better than my Kia. It gets about 26mpg My CUCV gets 11mpg.

    Oil filter

I have a K30, but it isn't always that easy. The NAPA computer doesn't list box filters under fuel filters for a 1985 6.2 diesel, you have to ask for the part number. I always ask for part numbers to make sure I get what I want, good habit to get into with these parts store monkeys and their...

    Oil filter

I've never had a problem with Fram filters, Been using them for years. I only decided to try something different this time since I had to get some other things from NAPA this morning.

    Oil filter

Figured as much, thanks. They should take it out of the FAQ, it seems the part number has changed. Did a google search to see if maybe it got boxed wrong, shows the same thing I have for FIL1092.

    Oil filter

Decided its about time for an oil change, and decided to try the NAPA 1092 filter. Got home and was caught a little off guard when I opened the box, looks like a tin can with holes in it. I've only ever used the Fram filters from Wal-mart on my vehicles, looks a bit different. Is this still the...
