Summit?
Ouch! I was going to order a set from them, but after tax and handling the price was right at $540, almost $100 more than the other place. Plus, they are out of stock.
I guess I'll suck it up and order Ouversons from Hot Rod Deuce.
RE: 302 POWER
With any of these old engines valve lash is critical. I always run to the tight side of the specs, it has the effect of giving a tad more lift and duration. Years ago I read a test in some magazine (Hotrod maybe?) on what HP loss was incurred by loosening up the valve adjustment...
You have the wrong pressure plate. There are no adjustments you can make to that. If the clutch fingers are hitting the the input shaft retainer, the pressure plate was made for a smaller diameter tranny input shaft. I'll measure my spare tonight and give you a call.
Don't know if you can really pressure test it, you would have to hook it up to a set of injectors and turn the pump with a motor, all the while supplying it with lubricating oil. I run diesel mixed with some WMO, so I don't really need the FDC. I don't run gasoline, so no issue.
IP swaps are a...
RE: Pics of wrench in action
I've sent out PM's to all who expressed interest in these wrenches. If you want them, fine. If you have decided you don't, that is still fine. Looks like the first 20 are already spoken for, I'll have 34 coming in next week. I'll have them at Aberdeen if anyone...
As you have read, my deuce is making its own oil, really thin and smells of diesel!
Could be the FDC leaking, the hydraulic head, or the fuel pump. It has made between 4 and 5" on the dipstick in 200 miles or so. Not counting what it blew out and coated the side of the truck with.
I have a...
Re: oil
Stainless steel.
OK. Checked the oil today after it sat all night. The oil level is 4-5" above the full mark. Now that it is cold, I can smell the diesel fuel. I am going to pull the IP off my parts truck tomorrow and check it over before I change it onto my engine. I'll test fire it...
Pics of wrench in action
Tried a few wrenches on my parts truck engine. Here is a pic showing how it fits. There is room to back the bolts out about a turn and a half and still fit the wrench. These fit nice and snug on this compressor pulley, they look good!
They made 54 this first batch, I have 20 in my posession at the moment. Not planning on making a longer handle, you can weld on an extension if you really think you need it.
Honestly, if you are going to go to all the time and money to swap gears, engine, etc. it would probably be easier and cheaper to find a later model 4x4 and swap the body off. That way you have late model brakes, etc.
These were made from a tracing of an original GI wrench, courtesy of L7. The wrench fits one way only, and will engage every 90 degrees. I tried it on my truck today, fits nice and snug. My parts truck engine has 3 coats of CARC on the engine, and I had to wiggle it a bit to chip away the paint...
You can put a double splined axle and a locking hub on the front tandem and run with 1 rear axle only. I don't know of any 5 ton locking hubs, so you would have to pull an axle shaft out to run with one rear axle only. The deuce and 5 ton originally had sprag transfer cases, so they were always...
Drove the deuce to Atlanta today with a load of scrap. Noticed the power was a little down, attributed that to the 4 ton load. Got into town (60 miles) with no real issues, but I kept smelling hot diesel fuel. When I got to the scrapyard and got out, I see the pax door is completely covered in...
