    Level Wind on Deuce Winch?

You are quite right, hooking up to something and winding in under a load is the best option. I work with (literally) a dozen different designs of pinch rollers, tension plates, tension bars, winder's, etc at work. To know what to expect, you need to step back and look objectively. It is a...

    What happened to Reverse

One of the two parking brake shoes is self energizing in either direction. Check carefully to see that there is NO contact. Not even a litle "brushing". Just cause it's only "barely touching" right now, doesn't mean it is still that way when the drum moves. It's also possible (although far...

    Strange Coolant Leak

All materials expand and contract. The hose "should" be pliable enough to make this up, but over time that property degrades a bit. Probably ( <--- You know what that's worth...) probaby you just need to snug up the clamps... That's the biggest reason modern stuff has gone to the contstant...

    Deuce History and stencils

It might be. Kinda supposed to be. You know what the difference is between "in theory" and "in practice", right? If it matters to you, look for the one on the frame.

    Deuce Cold Weather Upgrades

If you slide that cardboard behind the grille from the bottom, you can "hook" it in there and it'll stay just fine... Couldda saved saved those zip ties... :p

    radiator cap adaptor

Stick a hose nipple in one of the unused holes (or a used one for that matter...) in the intake jacket by the thermostat. Hook it to one of those inexpensive pressure regulators (make sure it's a regulator, not just an orifice type), hook it to the glad hand if the engine is running, or your...

Dumb question about using gas in multifuel diesel

Yes it's been tried, and yes it will run. It doesn't like it though. I can't find it either right now, but A, gasoline was an "emergency fuel", and B, what you get at the pumps now was outside the criteria by a (probably) survivable margin, but still quite significant. Gasoline is much better...

    Dot3,4,5, why

DOT 5 is the retrofit. DOT 3 is what the OEM of the brake components built the parts for. Use whichever you like.

    Air Compressor Issues

Try it. Actually, I highly recommend that you try it. Stop the engine (in a SAFE place for this experiment), let the air tanks down, and while they're draining, go to the right rear glad hand. Remove the cover and open the valve. (You've just duplicated main line or tank failure...) When...

    List location on classifieds...

I look forward to that change if and when it comes. It still surprises me however that sellers (most of them here are repeat sellers) do not take upon themselves to stick it in the title. You know, instead of "Widgets for sale", just put "Widgets for sale in ND". At least then you could take...

    How much work is a

If my boss told me i HAD to drive a deuce on the street to complete my job, I'd probably quit. Because that's not the case, it's not work, it is just fun, and I "get to" drive my deuce when ever I want, I tend to want to drive it. I only know from word of mouth, but I have been told that it's...

    Mystery Winch Part

Tinwoodsman, my winch did not come equipped with this piece. I intend to make one, it's not that complicated, but I wonder if i could trouble you for another picture with the latch flipped up, that would show how it's properly mounted, and how it sits against the lever when it's in use.

    Chinese Headlight adjustment assembly

I'm not convinced that there is such a thing any more for any vehicle. I can't picture yours specifically, it's been a while, HOWEVER we used to use a lot of Chevy trucks in our fleet. One of the two "standard" fixes used to work because we did it all the time- If it fits, add a nut to the...

Out with the old - in with the new!

Here's my quick two cents... The TM section- I don't know if a "vehicle specific index" is feasable, but that would be awesome. Short of that, it would be a HUGE improvement if they could remain in numerical order as they are, but be simply on one page so perusing them for an unknown manual...

    "Warning" Switch Convoy Lights?

If it looks like an unmolested harness, not something that's cut and hacked together, then the aluminum circuit number tags may be informative.

how hot does your deuce get

Verify your temperature at the engine only. These use a full flow "diverter valve" as opposed to an open/closed thermostat. There is always a full flow, but when the thermostat is closed, it's a full flow completely within the engine. As the thermostat opens, it partially opens a "parallel...

    Dual mass flywheel

Dual mass flywheels are a band aid to get an underspec'ed transmission with undersized gears to survive behind an engine that's got too many horsepower to be in a vehicle that's not stout enough to support an adequate driveline. Deuces did not need this protection from themselves.

a bad day and some help and insight would help

Typically how that works out is that they were ALL loose enough to let the wheel shift beneath the lugs to some degree. The "tighter than the others but not tight enough" bolts bear more of the burden on too few points, they bend, move, fatigue, and break in short order. When you drop a couple...

Is this starter gear and/or fly wheel toast?

If you're going to get a new used starter, you may consider carrying that one to an auto electric shop first. They should be able to come up with a pinion, and "probably" can clean up some working but sticky internals. It was at one time an "off the shelf" starter, although it's not as current...

    PTO cover plate

SAE 6 bolt... For mounting a PTO, use the thin gaskets that come in premeasured thicknesses. The number and selection of said gaskets will put the correct backlash in the gears. For mounting a PTO cover, use a COVER GASKET (squishier, more like a "regular" gasket" or use silicone.
