With the headboard removed, you can spray most of what's readily visible. Narrow the spray gun's spray pattern and shoot where you can't otherwise reach. Beats moving the bed, besides, if someone looks that close (for defects) just invite them to help you slide the bed!
Another truck that went too high is the one where "missing a door" was mentioned. A look at the interior shows that the light switch, horn button, starter button and air filter indicator are also missing. The instrument panel is just hanging, indicating more items like tach or speedo cable might...
I didn't see your previous Post, darn it, thanks for the reply. TN, I think, is trying to introduce a bill that would prohibit modification of any (historical?) military site or OBJECT. This is broad. I read about it on the Mil-Veh List, maybe.
Shimmy is not normal. Look for out of balance tires, worn front end components and uneven tire wear. I've also encountered bent wheels. Jack it up and rock the tires. See where the "play" is, if any. Spin the tires and check for bent wheeel(s). Worn out shocks can cause a problem. Check tire...
Although designed so the whole power pack, including radiator, can be pulled as a unit, I always remove the radiator. Take the top shifter off of the transmission and leave the trans attached to the motor. Disconnect the trans-to-transfer shaft and clutch linkage. Disconnect wires, cables, tach...
The Interstate 6TL's last me about two to three years. When they go bad, I can barely get a specific gravity reading on all most cells. On a rare occasion, a long, slow charge gets a little more life out of them. I recently read on a web site that the mil-spec 6TL only has a projected life span...
Bjorn,
Thanks for the tip. I went to their site and checked out the chargers. Problem is, my facility does not have electric service available where many of my MV's are parked. I thought about solar trickle chargers, but they failed to make the batteries in my motor home last more than three...
>29) Batteries are getting old and should probably be replaced.
I'm sick of replacing the 6TL batteries, they don't last long. This is probably due to to inactivity, I don't get to drive the MV's often, but I do start them about once a week to charge the batts. When the 6TL's in my M35A2 took a...
Thanks for the thanks, I appreciate that.
At one time I had a lot of pics of an installation. I did it to show a truck customer in OR that had me install a heater before shipping the truck. In cleaning out my files, I went too far and deleted the pics :(
There are split rims and split rings. Split rings are the standard on the M35A2 and many civvy applications. I think split rims are indeed illegal in some areas. Split ring is very dangerous to work on if you don't know what you're doing and don't have the right tools and cage. Not as bad as...
We're all glad to help, cten. When I got my first M35A2, no sites like this existed, nobody to ask, in the dark. Believe me, I've sure learned a lot from Steel Soldiers and the Mil-Veh Mailing List, and still am.
24volts is great, just follow D-b's advice and don't short ciruit the system. Always keep your batteries matched, don't put a new one in with an old one. Keep the cable connections clean and tight, you'd be surprised at what a loose clamp will do to a battery post if it arcs. Disconnect the...
Welp, cten, I hate to admit it, but I'm probably as old as your grandfather was back then :( Got me about fifty some years of truck and trucking experience under my belt . Most of what I know was garnered at "The School of Hard Knocks" , no use you guys goin' there, too :)
