The old manuals (8022) list the combat wheel with beadlock inserts as occasionally found. Gives the mounting procedures for tires. I'm sure quite a few ended up on trucks over the years, especially in Arty units. I would guess no special effort was made to keep the combat wheels on the arty...
The carbs aren't hard to do. The Holley Centri-Vac governor is a bit more trouble. Chances are good the governor is acting up. The throttle butterfly on a governed carburetor is not directly attached to the throttle linkage. The throttle linkage actuates the governor mechanism which in turn...
Those old engines coupled to non-synchro trannies are a blast to drive! If the engine does not slow down fast, you can start in first and run all the gears without using the clutch. I drove an old IHC dumper, 392V8, 5 and a 3. We had replaced the tranny with a truly ancient 5 speed that was...
RE: FOLLOWUP ON BAD BOTTOM END
If you spun a main bearing in your first engine, the block will need to be line bored. The bearings you show in the picture look typical of an engine run with no oil pressure. I would see if an automotive machine shop can mike and polish the crank. It may be OK...
RE: Head gaskets
You have to take the heads to an automotive machine shop. There, they are cut on a head and block milling machine, a specially designed sweep mill that will accurately true the surface of a head. "Decking a block" is a term used to describe trueing up the top surface of an...
MCLB Albany is doing the same for the USMC. If they scrap one, it needs it. They scrap some blown up body shells and frames, but everything usable is removed first.
RE: Re: RE: Interesting boom, M108?
This guy has tried to sell this truck before. he also keeps trying to sell a deuce with a blown engine in rough shape for $1750. I think he is a consignment seller.
BFR- Filter/regulators are easy to find and quite common in industrial applications. Check McMaster Carr, MSC, or Grainger. All sizes and types are available.
A little oil won't hurt an air cylinder. If water and rust are present, that can cause problems.
Most air systems in industry have...
The first one is a home made skidder, the second is a pulpwood truck. Common mods, although I'm more used to seeing that done with old civvy trucks or school buses. I guess they used whatever trucks were available cheaply.
Soda blasting is done with a pressure pot sandblasting rig. Loud as any blasting like that. Does a really nice job of cleaning up metal, and the mild alkalinity of the soda helps prevent flash rusting.
Looks like the M135 is a good candidate for restoration. I have to admit, the M135 appeals to me........
But then, my wife would kill me slowly, with a dull butter knife if I even mention another truck.......
Oh well, good luck!
I want to do much the same with 14.50R20's. They are roughly the same height as my 1100R20's I am running now. Nice job on the wheels! I am a bit luckier, I have access to a lathe big enough to do the job, and a balancing machine.
Our county fire rescue unit had a goat many years ago. They loved it when they had to head up through the powerline right of ways to recover people/equipment. The tires on theirs were not the greatest, they said it was all over the road at 45mph or better. They turned it in eventually and...
If you don't have a huge amount of experience with manual transmissions and larger trucks, you may want to head out of town to a fairground or a large open field (with the owners permission) and practice backing and manuevering around obstacles (plastic garbage cans make great obstacles!)
The...
