    weight of a dropside bed

Use your boom truck and a trailer. Back the trailer up to the bed, run the boom out, and pick/pull it onto the trailer. We used to move pretty big things that way with an old sign crane.

    Winch question

If the winch case is broken from a gear or brg. failure, the winch is toast.

    Govt Waste? Not necessarily!

Thanks for the info! Maine is a little too far from Ga. to allow me to bid, so I won't be able to try to buy anything. We have a love for these old soldiers here, what is junk to many people is a treasure trove of hard to find MV's. Again, Thanks!

    GSA Auction parking!

RE: Re: RE: GSA Auction parking! I have seen people easing down a boat ramp a little too fast in a pickup float the bed up and end up sinking in the river. Amazing how a PU bed will float the truck if the tailgate is up!!!!!

    theft deterrent

Look in the thread on visiting Shirley's surplus. I like the ignition lock that the military fabbed up.

    Tuff Primer

You can scrub the truck down with Scotchbrite pads to prep for painting. Are you going back with automotive paint or CARC?

    Power Wagon Ambulance...

RE: It Is Home... This was likely a Govt. contract ambulance for the various military bases. Eglin AFB in Fla used to have some Dodge truck ambulances in the 1969-70 era. I can remember being on the flightline with my Dad in Montivideo Uruguay in 1968, we were driving around in an AF blue Dodge...

    deep water fording kits

There are probably enough of us who would like a complete fording kit to make up a group order.

Rear stabilizer leg on an M105

Neither of mine had the landing leg. I found a NOS one on E-Bay.

    Filtering used oil

I have a hand operated fuel transfer pump with a built in water separator/filter arrangement. Don't know the brand, a contractor left it at work 8 months ago and never came back for it, so my boss told me to take it home. I let my oil settle, then pump off the top. Put 15-20 gallons in a drum...

    deep water fording kits

Matt in Liveoak had several on E-bay a while back. I got one complete with hold downs for $40 plus shipping.

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Excellent buy! That is a really nice example of a rare truck. Glad you kept it from becoming an axle donor to some idiot who would want to put Blazer axles it!

    Engine Replacement Pointers?

The TM's show pulling the engine and tranny together. I would remove the radiator just to be safe (it can come out with the power pack). The fenders come off one at a time, not too hard to do. I would recruit help when you set the old engine out/set the new one back in. The rest should be fairly...

    Trip to Shirleys Surplus...

I enjoyed the day with the guys. I got to harass Clinto all day, we got to see lots of neat junk, and in general had a good time. ADR asks a lot of questions, but they are all well thought out! I ask him questions about computers and networking, so we are even! Looking at that ignition lock, it...

    M52 questions

RE: Air to transfer Cab cover on an M52 should be the same as a deuce. The cabs are the same. I am not sure, but I bet the wiring harness is really close to being the same as well. Right off hand, I can't think of anything that might be different except the loom going to the front turns and...

    Trip to Shirleys Surplus...

Those trucks were all there 3 years ago when I was looking for a deuce. He moved a bunch towards the back of the property, but the only trucks he has sold that I know of are 1 deuce, 1 900 series 5 ton, and 1 10 ton tractor. He doesn't have any new trucks except the deuce that has had the dump...
