I attempted to connect my power cable to my RT-524 radio for the first time in my M1009. This cable comes from under the dash and is the female end that is the mate to the plug in on the left rear bottom of the RT-524. Cable has #4722/VRC on it. Anyway while I was tryng to connect it sparks...
Chuck the three clicks of the relay are happening after I get the Blazer cranked. Each time it clicks the voltmeter is affected. After the relay operates the last time then the voltmeter returns to green. It does not do it while driving. 8)
Update: Got my Gen 2 light working, but would like opinions on what happened. I replaced both the voltmeter and Gen2 relays under the dash. This did not solve anything. Voltmeter was stilll in the yellow and 12.5 volts at rear battery. Pulled rebuilt alternator #2 and took it to alternator...
Since there is a key question out there, I thought another one might be in order. Like most CUCV's mine had a chain welded to the drivers seat and two nice locks to chain and lock the steering wheel. This was due to the ignition keys being the same on all of them.
My question is does anyone...
I had the same problem Gen 2 light did not come on when I turned the key and when I cranked it the voltmeter stays in the yellow area. Today I replaced bad rear battery and pulled the Gen 2 relay and Voltmeter relay. Both are besided each other under the lower dash to the right of the steering...
I bought it through a private sale with title. It is a 1984 with the antenna mounts at the rear on both sides. I understand they moved the antenna mounts foward after 1984. One side has the original antenna mast on it and the radio cable and plug are still in it. I also have the radio tray...
My CUCV M1009 finally came home. I drove it 16 miles from the mechanics house last night with the new flexplate. Everything seemed fine. Got to work on gas gauge problem and right side gen light. Both batteries are charging, but the right light and amp gauge have problems. Lot to learn, but...
Mike, you were right cracked flexplate and one broken bolt. I went ahead and bought a new GM flexplate. Hope to have it finally drivable by Tuesday.
Thanks for all the help from you fellows.
Thanks Mike, The mechanic has not called me to tell me what else he has found. They are suppose to slide the transmission back this week and inspect the end of the crank. They think they can see a chipped spot in the end of the crank (maybe just chipped from installation), but want to be sure...
Does anyone have some websites or parts vendors they would recommend as the best places to buy parts for the M1009? I understand NAPA carries a lot of them since they can interchange with the civilian version. I was wondering if there were some vendors that might have NOS military parts...
J and Steve are you all members of the Georgia MVPA? I am a member, but not sure I will be able to make the Southeastern Fall Rally and Swap meet coming up in September 15-17 at the Dixie Wing of the Commemorative Air Force Facility located at Falcon Air Field in Peachtree City, GA. Rally is...
Mike, there are several 6.2 engines on GL near me at Redstone Arsenal. Are these out of Hummers? Can the Hummer 6.3 be put in the M1009 without many mods?
I just got some bad news on my new M1009 rubbing problem. My mechanic friend is pretty sure it is a cracked crank shaft. I thought it was going to be a flywheel or bolt problem. He will know for sure tommorrow when he cleans it and checks it again. He said their is a wobble to the converter...
Well I finally got the 1984 M1009 CUCV today. Hopefully a mechanic friend can diagnose the transmission cover rubbing and right generator light problem so I can get on the road soon. I told him all of the suggestions I received here on the forum about my problems.
Thanks for the help and will...
I was reading the TM and it says the M1009 maximum towed load capacity is 1200 lbs for both cross country and highway travel. Tongue weight not to exceed 100 lbs. How much have any of you towed behind your M1009? I had hoped to tow my 16 foot trailer with my 2300 lb GPW on it? Looks like I...
I guess that explains why the one I am buying has a rebuilt Gov engine with black valve covers and such. So I will need to get some green CARC. 8)
Thanks
I was reading an old April 2003 article from MV magazien about CARC paint. They said that when painted correctly that the engines were also painted in CARC. The article was talking about all military vehicles in general. Did the military ever paint the CUCV engines any color besides black?
