When I shorted a fuible link, I found it by tugging on the wires at the main power point on the firewall near the glow plug relay. You can tell if one is bad, it will stretch apart the insulation instead of being tight, since the wire inside has broken.
One thing to be sure of is that your alternator light indicators in the dash are also good. From what I understand, the alternator needs that path to ground and the small load the light provides to turn itself on. If they turn on when the engine is not running but the key is on, then the...
Get the polyurethane mounts and dont buy any of the junk factory style rubber mounts that are sold. I don't think anyone makes a good factory style rubber mount anymore that will last. They will sag and become metal to metal after a year or two. Just do it once and get the poly inserts. If you...
Can you remove the belt and turn the pulley by hand and see if there is any roughness or grit in the bearings? That would be the easiest test.
I was driving down the road when I had a bearing fail on my left alternator. The pulley dropped and locked in place while the engine was running at a...
We should be pulling in sometime Thursday afternoon. We were the ones with the tent set up at the primitive camp site last year. Glad its a little closer this year, and I dont have to go rolling through Atlanta traffic at 55mph.
I chose 84 K20 as the vehicle back then, the inner fender holes are physically the same through all the K levels as far as I could tell. I didnt have any issue with it.
I bought mine from LMC truck in 2017, they were about 17 bucks each. They've gone up a pinch since then, but they are still going strong flapping around under there. Replace all the push pins with new.
The only way to know for sure is to take it all the way apart and look. The problem is, any little bit of water and schmoo gets past those old seals and it will seize up those small bearings. Mine were toast on one side, but the other was not as bad. Youll just have to take it apart to see
There is a bearing that goes on the inside of that, it is what the axle shaft itself rides on.
It looks something like this photo.
Dana sells a seal kit and bearing set as part number 700014.
If you want to get it out, you can use a long punch, or the actual proper puller.
I want to confirm that there is no spot where we can just set up a tent, we need to rent a specified primitive camping spot?
I ask this as the only person who used the primitive park last year. Had a good time, though.
I really just made sure to measure it properly and cut it so the winch was centered on the plate. It's mounted to four holes I had to drill in the frame with a right angle drill and stubby bits I cut down. I'll see what I can get for a photo.
So the first couple of pictures are laying on...
Check your local auto parts store. They may have one in stock for an 84 K30. Mine did, and it was only about twenty bucks for it at the time. It was not a matching key, but it worked fine for my need
The front case on mine was cracked near the front output. I bought a used case off of Facebook and swapped everything over. Ive still got the old one apart and in my floor if you need a photo or something.
I think the best thing I did was buy a transmission jack that pivoted and tilted. It made...
Ive got the regular 12k harbor freight winch mounted upside down behind the front bumper. I cut out the front flat license plate area and put a roller fairlead cover on it. It has a Daystar urethane winch hook isolator so the hook nestles in sideways and hides easy. I put the winch box remote...
On my original steel wheels, my 285 tire front left tire sidewall hits the tie rod attached to the pitman arm at full right turn. Its not enough to damage the tire, but it has scuffed the finish off of the rod end and torn the boot. They were on there when i bought it, but I would rather have...
Realistically, if there is no longer a source for the cam driven pumps, the simplest course of action would be to install a modestly sized 12v vacuum pump. The output of that could be used through the modulator and adjusted for proper shifting. It might take purchasing several over time to...
I can say with certainty that neither of my outer front bearings had that tabbed washer next to them them on my m1028. I can't tell you if it just wasnt on some vehicles, or if mine disappeared at some point in the past.
