What does the brown wire in the alt plug do?

I checked the wiring diagrams and it goes to an alt relay. And the way the voltage changes when the key is 'on' just wondered what it did. Went to the Roscomm instructions and they don't mess with it in a 12v conversion. They just add a ground wire to the block.

doghead, no, the one in the white plug. It plugs in the back of the alt, passenger side alt. There's a red wire and a brown wire.

What does the brown wire in the alt plug do?

Not my choice, but I'm trying to work with it. I'm trying to sort out a 12volt conversion. There is an OEM air conditioner on the driver side instead of an alt. So I'm working with the passenger side alt only. I got a non-isolated ground alt for the pasenger side and just wondered what the...

Starting Four HMMWV engines in the can

My military rebuilt(and installed) 6.2 in my HMMWV lasted about 4500 miles with a cracked-in-half crankshaft. I'm thinking the harmonic balancer dried out, or the main bearings in the rebuild. 4500 miles in 12 years...

    Convert to 12V?

idM1028, In my recent M1009 the military installed AC for ambulance use as you described, nice. Then the previous owner did the 12V conversion and it's simplified things electric.

    TOW mule project progress

Looks good Nick, Looks like I'd better start laying up a TOW launch tube for ya'. In the mean time a 6inch PVC tube can be locked into the T&E with 3 sawzall cuts(shown in pic). I think the storage tube might fit in the PVC tube if you cut the end off.

Parade Season starts with St Pat's Day Parade

Our NICMVPA group came to the cold and drizzly Naperville St Pat's Day Parade. Over 100+ other parade entrant groups and over a mile long! Always an overly appreciative crowd.
