I understand it wouldn,t be vertical, thats why I said up towards the door. Would be out of the way for offroad clearance, just not sure how far it would stick out, might have to paint the feet of the towbar red. In the down position it might be out of the way for the ladder, might not.

What about bolting the spare to a tow bar, tow bar attached to the hitch, and the feet braced with pulley cable up toward the rear door then locked into place with safety chain? If you want to tow a trailer, well then the tow bar and spare can go in it.

Look up a boat cover business in you area. I know around here, a complete custom cover for a pontoon boat runs around 500 - 600 bucks. Ask starlight for some photos of his bow setup. Or if you like starlights setup, maybe he could have his guy build another like it.

If you busted a U-Joint, you should be able to drive just fine with the hubs unlocked. You can easily see if the u-joint is busted. Makes all kinds of noises and popping when it goes, and if you are unlucky, the ears on the shafts get broken.
