    MEP-802A/803A Coolant Servicing

    Whatever works!

    MEP-802A/803A Coolant Servicing

One tip though, i used a bungee cord to secure the funnel from 'flopping' over when using the filter, by hooking the bungee cords to the radiator air outlet grille. I did this so I could run the unit with the funnel filled with coolant, in order to "burp" the air out. It's not really...

    MEP-802A/803A Coolant Servicing

Just wanted to pass along that I have found a solution to servicing the radiator on the MEP-803A (but should work find for the 802A's as well). I have a Lisle 24680 Spill Free Funnel that I used to fill up the radiator and bleed out the system. With the right included adapters, one can service...

    MEP-802A/803A gauge lighting

Just got the bulbs installed today that Overdrive found. Haven't night checked them yet, but they are bright even in direct sunlight! Thanks Overdrive!

    Long term storage

One thing to think about would also be to give everything a decent coating of ACF-50 or Corrosion-X (or any other ultra thin film CPC - these can be found under MIL-PRF-81309G); they are electronics safe and are good for 2 years and pretty much stop any corrosion from setting in. This is good...

    Genset auctions?

I have been noticing that the auctions on GP now include single digit amounts of 803A and 802A generators these days, or even none in the weekly auctions.

    Crazy prices?

I'm a pretty big proponent of doing research on the front end, especially after being burned in the past regarding purchases (Caveat Emptor, etc). I would surmise that the community of people willing to jump into the military generator market are those who do research on what they are getting...

    Crazy prices?

Makes sense, but I'm in awe at the asking price... These things were like $12k new to Uncle Sam if I'm not mistaken? Oh well, to each his own.

    Crazy prices?

Are MEP-8XX prices still going for crazy prices ? I just saw this on Facebook, and on top of it all, it's a 400HZ unit, and not advertised as such. $10k? You could buy a new, computer controlled genset for that kind of money. Nothing against the guy selling it, if he gets it good on him, but wow!

    MEP-803A skid mounting holes

Don't know the measurement, but when I built my dolly I just ran lag bolts through them. More of a slide protection than anything, the unit weighs 1100 pounds and isn't really going anywhere

MEP 803a Short Circuit / Air Conditioner startup.

Did you leave the hard start kit installed when you installed the soft starter?

MEP 803a Short Circuit / Air Conditioner startup.

Effectively, it's a a current limiter that 'slowly' ramps up compressors and motors in a stepped fashion to operating speed instead of throwing full amperage at once. It applies like 30 amps, waits for inrush current to drop off, then another 30 amps a few milliseconds later, wait for current...

Sizing generator to start and operate central air conditioner and electric motors

MEP 803a Short Circuit / Air Conditioner startup.

I called my HVAC company about the soft start kits and warranty as my HVAC units are both a year old, they are such a new / unique item in the residential world that they had no idea as to what I was talking about in regards to this equipment and hadn't installed any in a residential project. I...

MEP 803a Short Circuit / Air Conditioner startup.

This post intrigued me as I'm going to be connecting my genset to my house and I've got a 4 and 2.5 ton units. I found one recommended by Copeland Compressors / Emerson Electric. http://www.emersonclimate.com/Documents/CopelandSecureStartOverviewPresentation.pdf Looks to be about 400 bucks...

    MEP-803A 751-42670/5 Pistons?

I ended up finding part number "FG Wilson Piston ASSY STD 941-674 Lister 751-40545" on the big auction site. Still up there with more than 10 available. The seller (a large generator company out of Miami) has a make offer function and definitely is willing to wheel and deal. The only catch was...

    ISU-90 Roof Sealant

Dicor Lap Sealant. It's used for RV's and works pretty well. Another one that's amazing is OSI Quad, tenacious grab and flexibility.

    MEP-803A 751-42670/5 Pistons?

Hey all, just an update. I finally finished up reassembling the unit last night/this morning and it fired on the first attempt after a good fuel system bleed. I ended up replacing pistons and rings, rod bearings, 2 pushrods, fuel pump return lines, as well as installing the quad fuse and...

MEP803a tripping overload fault while other unit chugs along no problems.

Thanks Farmitall. I appreciate the help! I've been buried at work and travelling a bunch so haven't been able to get out into my shop at all; I'm still working on reassembling the engine on my first unit so that has put my personal unit on the back burner...

MEP803a tripping overload fault while other unit chugs along no problems.

I'm having a similar issue on one of my MEP-803A's; havent' had a chance to get into the S8 yet as I'm wrapping up my piston replacement / rering project right now. Anyhow, is there a good NSN for a 'better' S8 reconnection switch? I can only seem to locate NSN 5930-01-386-0543 which is the...
