You are certainly correct as far as the 24R21s being DOT branded tires and therefore street legal. The reason I said ...."pretty much as big as you can go"....is because installing them on the M1070 HET, makes it over width! So now you have to deal with permits, every time you take it out on the...
Pulled My First Trailer Today......
Well, I had to move my tanker trailer around in the yard today, so I used the FEMTT and took it for a spin down the road. This is the first time I hauled a trailer with the FEMTT and it towed it very nicely. I have to admit, I like the way it looks with a...
I was just kidding about the modifications on the HET.....I like it just the way it is!!
As far as the tire size....the 16.00R 20 are pretty much as big as you can go and still maintain DOT approval.

The M1070 HET is just about perfect from Oshkosh! The only things that I have in store for it are:
- Cigarette lighter plug to charge cell phone and MP3 player
- A 6" body lift to make room for bigger tires
- Bigger tires for more speed
- A 'Hovaraound' to get around in the cab when I get...
Crane Is Finally Painted....
Well, I finally got the knuckle boom crane painted today, so now the FEMTT is all one color at last.
It took me pretty much all day, but as Patracy pointed out, there are so many hard to get to places. The crane had to be moved in to every possible position in...
Then and Now.....
Well....I got sidetracked today, so no paint until NEXT YEAR!!!! lol
Anyway, while looking through my picture folders I found the ORIGINAL GL pics for the FEMTT, when it was for sale in Barstow, CA.
It is kind of funny to look at the pics of the M916 as picked up by me and...
Yes so far!
The loco weight was about 237'000 pounds, plus 14'000 pounds of 'skidpan' and track panels.
The most challenging part about this whole move was certainly the fact that the city of La Junta, CO wanted it to be displayed on top of a hill, so at the end we had to winch it up a steep...
I paint down to about 35 F.....it makes difficult areas, with lots of hidden spots easier to paint, without getting a bunch of overspray. The RAPCO paint I use still dries nicely at these low temps.

Painting the Crane.....
Today I got the knuckle boom crane all ready to paint. By the time I got all the placards and piston rods taped off, it was to late in the day to actually start painting. I should be able to get the paint applied tomorrow, after it warms up a bit.
It will be nice to...
Thank you for the compliment. I use the RAPCO paint, the number for the 'Camouflage Sand' is 30277 (www.rapcoparts.com)
I love the M1070 HET.....IMHO it is an awesome truck!

Just be patient my friend, it will not be until sometime this coming spring, for the side hill angle test.... (note that I intentionally left out the term "roll-over") lol
It would be hard to set up right now, since it is all frozen in the morning and totally muddy in the afternoon.
I...
Fire Extinguisher and Bridge Plate....
I had to do some work on the snow cat today, but I still managed to add a couple of items to the FEMTT....
First I added a 10 pound fire extinguisher to the side of the antenna bracket, so it would be easily accessible from the ground.
I had an incident...
I will post the part numbers tomorrow, but I have not been able to figure out where the US military sourced their Hella lights here in the states. Hella USA does have similar lights available, but does not carry this particular type.
In the past I have picked some up here and there, on Fleabay...
Quick Connect Convoy Light
Today I made a mounting bracket for the back of the cab, so I can run one of the HELLA "quick connect" convoy lights on the FEMTT.
I really like these lights from Hella, because of their simple quick connect system, that attaches the light and connects the power all...
