We saw caribou 6x6 on our way through. Everything was running well or we might have stopped in. The bad fuel was from Haines Junction. New day, new problem. When I am in 5th gear I get a nasty rattle from what sounds like the transmission. It started nice and quiet and has grown louder. It...

Problem was resolved with clean fuel. So for the first 1000 miles Brutus was running fine. about half way through a tank of Canadian diesel, which is a cloudy green color, he is barely running. Yesterday the trouble started when I was downshifting the RPM would shoot up as I pushed in the...

Thanks. I would much rather do the work in my driveway than on the side of the road some where. Looks like I will need to adjust the wheel bearing nuts, three hubs were about 140 after about 20 miles of 50mph driving.

It has been a busy week between packing up the house and getting Brutus ready for the trip. I started with the Parking brake. Though there was obviously plenty of pad left on the shoes, i figured I would swap them out anyways. Once I got the shoes swapped out I attached the lever end and got it...

    Alaska to Alabama in Brutus

Going to be a lot of bugs killed on this trip. Will probably have to stop more often to clean the windshield than to fill up the tank. I will post up as often as I can. The first few days I won't have a connection but will certainly be taking pictures. Unfortunately I don't have a night camera...

The biggest problem with solar is running the A/C. The stove top and toaster oven are run for such short amounts of time that they don't have that much impact on the batteries. The A/C on the other hand will be running just about constant which means the panels need to at least match the draw. I...
