Good call Bnaditcorps, tools to change a tire would be a good idea too. I keep a reflective vest in my cab incase I have to get out on the side of the road. Fire Extinguisher is a necessity.
From Sonoma County to Ft Bragg Nc it took me 10 days. That included two days lost for a blown injector line. I averaged about 300-400 miles a day depending on the terrain. Big thing with these is to give yourself a lot of time and not push them too hard. Depending on the shape of the truck it...
So ideal would be 50w in the transmission and transfer with 80/90w in the differentials? I am running Delo 80/90w in everything right now, occasionally when everything is at operating temp 4th will grind on me. The rest of the gears shift just fine though.
I think I would drop the 813 from the list too. (me personally) Most of the real advantages of the 5 ton come from the more modern 926 than from the 813. I would have to look at measurements but I think the difference between the Deuce and 5 ton bed lengths is what, 2 or three feet? I may be way...
Split rims are a scary thing. The UH-60 uses a rim that has 7(older) or 14(new) 3/8ths(i think, its been a while) bolts plus the axle to hold it together. The tire is aired up to 140psi. You are supposed to deflate it prior to removing it from the axle and not air it up until it is torqued back...
Personally I would drop the M36 from the pool. If you are interested in a longer bed I would go straight to the the 5 ton.
The M35 is nice because of it's size. The smaller size is a little easier to maneuver and fit places. The parts are big and heavy but manageable especially if you have a...
Rustystud, I have been reading up on the Zplus site trying to figure out how much to use. Looks like 4.5 bottles (18oz) would be the proper amount. How much do you use per oil change?
The oil showing higher on the dipstick is just from everything draining into the crankcase overnight. Unless you have the spin on oil filters there is no drain back valve so the filter canisters will drain into the crank case.
NDT, that sounds like a good guess.
A guy I work with was coming back from Savannah yesterday and he almost got stuck in SC. He ended up helping pull a guy out of his truck that got washed off the road. Had to back track quite a few times but eventually found a route he could get through...
I'll give simple green a try. looking at the parts houses, anywhere from 3-500 per head, now to dig through the classifieds to see if anyone is selling some cheaper.
I was going to do the motorcycle thing, but I will have to get back to Alaska to get the endorsement on my license
I was looking at a little 1969 CJ-5 at the lemon lot the other day. When I looked underneath it I had a sudden urge to buy it just so I could work on something that small and light.
I'm not overly upset at the progress I am making, Just way slower than anything I have worked on before.
