Got up this morning and headed over to the Auto Skills shop to get some work done. By the time I got into the only bay I could fit in and set up to start work I had about 5 and a half hours to work. Turns out that is exactly how long I needed to get one wheel done.
I am going through each hub...
It is a pain to get it out of there. It helps to take the boot off the front of it. as long as the line is removed from the rear of the MC just a game of turning pulling and pushing to get it past everything.
Eh I am certainly no expert on this brake system but if it is loosing large quantities of air out the vent that would mean that seals inside the air pack are bad. Who knows how long until they completely give up. Swapping out an air pack is fairly quick if you have a bleeder pot. Especially with...
What are your plans for power generation? The big downside to A/C is they suck down the power. Are you going to run an inverter off of the alternator or have a generator to augment the solar panels?
If you have a 1/4" barb fitting on your MC for the remote reservoir you can pick up a cheap pump sprayer and the line will fit the barb fitting. I picked up a half gallon sprayer from Tractor supply for under 10 bucks. Hooked it up, gave it a few pumps and one person bleeding. Have to be careful...
You know tracer when I realized what she had done I envisioned the bumper hanging off dragging on the ground and all kinds of carnage. To my surprise I couldn't even find a scratch. All I can figure is she cranked the wheel full lock, backed up and caught the ladder with the tread of the tire...
BnaditCorps, Sorry for completely hijacking your thread. Again welcome, lots of really cool history and information to be found on this site. you have an advantage in that you can read up on each type of vehicle and make an informed decision on which one you want to start with. I guess we all...
Most people wash their car only in the spring up there. The down side to the gravel is it is really hard on windshields. You will notice more than half the cars up there with major cracks in their windshields.
There are tons of dry cans for rent all around the area. Haven't really looked for...
I have another truck that needs some paint. Not sure if I am too late for the painting party. Though I am going to be going against the grain and painting arctic white.
I am currently using my Deuce as a daily driver. I really enjoy it most of the time. Two things that cause me stress. Parking anywhere that doesn't have pull through spots and maintenance. It really sucks having strict time limits on maintenance because you have to drive to work the next day. If...
The box is on a M46 chassis which has a wheel base of 166", quite a bit longer than the standard Deuce.
Vped, Thank you. Mine measures right at 96" so looks like they are right about the same. looks like it might actually work. This is going to get expensive :-D
Thankfully they don't use any salt up there. It gets too cold for the reaction to work. They sand the roads. Initial freeze up and break up can get pretty sketchy, but once it is an established ice pack the roads are fairly decent.
If it is on a well make sure they have tested it before you...
I was living in North Pole. CHSR is a nice area, careful if the place you get has a well, lots of arsenic out that way. There was a real nice Deuce driving around up there before I left. Only saw it once or twice. Might look into upgrading the tires for the winter up there. Not sure how NDT's...
Welcome from North Carolina. I grew up north of Santa Rosa and have family scattered around Northern California. Moved out of Alaska (not my idea) earlier this year.
After talking to wheelspinner and a couple other 5Ton drivers I am entertaining the thought of upgrading my chassis. The ERDlator box is quite heavy and would go down the road much better on a 5ton chassis.
I am trying to figure out just how much of a pain it would be to do the swap. I am...
Good time meeting people. Some nice cars at the show to drool over. Though I am a little upset at wheelspinner, now I am thinking I should buy a long wheelbase 5 Ton and move my box to it. Now all I need is unlimited funds and time :-D.
