Well I got off work a bit early today and thought it would be a great time to head over to the Auto Skills shop on post. I got there about 1530 and they close at 8. My plan was to rebuild hubs, starting with the rear axle and work forward. I thought I could get through at least one axle today no...
That is some great info. Thank you for doing all that digging. Now on my list of things to do as time allows. I went with the radials because I am driving mine daily, allows better speed with lower RPM and better safety on wet roads. Having an accurate spedo is a detail that is very nice to...
I am pretty much done in processing, and will be reporting to my unit on Monday. I am not sure how this will affect my ability to work on the problems. I went by the Auto Skills shop today (I don't think the camp ground would be happy with me doing major maintenance in one of their RV spots) and...
I certainly agree this thing should have been mounted on a 5 ton. The Deuce can handle it on the flat just fine, but even there it is really pushing its limitations. I am waiting for the day that some one stops to talk to me and says, hey thats an old ERDlator, I used to drive one of those. I...
Thanks everyone. It took just about everything I had not to stick a road flare in the fuel tank a few times. Very rewarding to have completed such a long day trip successfully. A huge reward at the end was the reaction of my niece and nephew when I pulled up to the house. They and a friend spent...
Ground controlled approaches have a radar operator giving the pilot corrections as he flies down the glide path to a landing point. Very good approaches, less work load on the pilot, worke even if the aircraft isnt equiped for instrument flight or had a failure, and they can guide the aircraft...
One of the hubs has new bearings and seats which is what the seal seals to. When I pull the. Apart I will inspect them thoroughly, see if there are any burs or gouges.
The box is original to the truck. It was a water filtration unit commonly called an ERDLator. The link is to some info on it...
I one go out before I left, a different one go out in Canada, both of those and one more went out when I was almost to Bragg. Possibly how I am assembling them?
TM 1-1520-248-10 especially chapters 5&9
One I really liked about ten years ago but havent read recently is Chickenhawk, Huey pilot in Vietnam. I probably should read it again and see how I feel about it at this point in my life.
One that I read at a young age and reread recently was west...
Makes me wonder how heavy this thing was with the filtration equipment and water treatment chemicals loaded up. No way it was within its max gross weight. Possibly why there are so few around.
I would like to drop a few thousand pounds off of his back. Some rough beer math, i figure there is...
Well lots of stuff to work on. Was getting ready to head up to Va to visit my brother and his family. Going through my prerun checks, went to check the tire pressures. One of my inner duals nolonger has a valve stem. Found a place intown that will fix that for me tomorrow.
Got my empty and...
really embarrassed to jump on this thread, but I can't get my horn button apart. I looked in the TM and it pretty much just says to remove it. I tried pushing it all the way in and turning it both ways, Tried pushing the brass piece down in the center hole and turning it. Do I just need to use...
I believe what they are getting at with not using RTV is that there are small oil passageways that can and will be plugged when the hardware is tightened and the RTV is forced to displace. If it weren't for the possible blockage of the passageways then there wouldn't be an issue with using RTV.
Going back a ways but some ideas on the winch. on my 5000+-lb 4runner I have a 9500lb winch. On a good hill and any kind of resistance the winch will be working pretty hard. As was said before, get the most winch you can. Also I would highly recommend the synthetic rope for the winch. One it is...
I did notice the fuel prices go up at the boarder.
After ten and a half years I drove back onto Ft Bragg Nc yesterday afternoon. It is amazing how much has changed, and what hasn't changed. I have until monday to sign in so a bit of time to get things in order. Thank you to everyone for the...
I too have the shiny bolt heads. Interested to see how this turns out. I am still playing with pressures on mine, started 75 in the front and 70 in the rear. I was a little heasitant to go too low, but after seeing what you are running I will continue to drop mine until the contact patch is nice...
I got the replacement #2 line for 25, NOS. Not sure what the others would. Cost. I think I will be adding a ferrule or two to my parts stash and maybe a set of lines for when I head back to Alaska.
