As long as you have somewhere to store it, I think you should get one of the parts M977- you never know which expensive part you might need next. You might be able to get a local heavy tow company to help you out with a reasonable fee for getting it delivered to you.
The transmission troubleshooting is in TM 08780B-20 starting on page 2-297.
The TM's that Coffey1 posted are in the 5 ton and up section of Technical Manuals link in the bar at the top of the page - http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?115-5-ton-and-up-TMs
I hadn't thought of that. I always try to make sure the container & spout or funnel I'm pouring from are clean, but it doesn't take much dirt to cause a problem.
I also agree with Coffey1 that most of it would be filtered, depending on style of filter. Hmmm!
I agree with the right tool for the job.
Leaving aside how to get the fuel moving to prime, I'm curious why you prefer to install the filters empty? It does seem like it would be cleaner, it's hard not to slop at least a little fuel out when you go to install a filter that is full of fuel...
I've seen some of those Schrader valves on fuel caps. Along with my own experiences, that's what made me make the original warning post. If someone didn't know they could easily assume it was OK to hook the air up without paying attention to the pressure. We ran a lot of the Detroit 6V92 up...
Military vehicles' fuel tanks are generally stouter than those in commercial vehicles. If you have experience, you can make your own decisions, I wanted to warn those with less experience.
How much pressure it takes to do damage depends on the shape and construction of the tank. The cylinder...
It's a great way to get the fuel all the way through the system, but a warning if you haven't done this before- use very low air pressure- like maybe 2 or 3 psi, 5 psi tops!
The fuel tanks aren't designed for pressure and it is easy to split it open. 2 psi will lift diesel a little more than...
What I recall when I tried to upload the TM's for the MK48 is that it wasn't the size of the files, it was that I didn't have the necessary permissions to upload to the TM section. I got them to Patracy & he got them linked up.
Jon, I'd be interested in comparing notes to see if there are some...
And the fuel consumption is 80 gallons/hour + or - a little depending on load, etc.
I did a lot of helicopter work moving small exploration drills in Alaska. By the time we got fuel out to a camp in the Brooks Range it was about as expensive as helicopter fuel in Afghanistan. (well maybe not...
s-280 shelter dimensional drawing
Here is a dimensional drawing for the S-280 shelter that may be useful. Unfortunately it doesn't specify how panels are attached to structural pieces.
The TM-10-5411-206-14 has some detail about procedures for repairs but also seems pretty vague on how panels...
It may be that the MK48 units are in limbo because GP puts HEMTT in the description of all the MK48's even though it is not technically correct.
eg: " Oshkosh MK48 HEMTT 8x8 Front Power Unit "
I received an email yesterday from GP's EUC team that the EUC we submitted in February for an MK48 would not be approved-I had wondered what was going on since our EUC's have typically cleared pretty quickly.
I'm not sure what the DLA will think of what this one has morphed into if it does...
I assume you are talking about the rubber sleeve that joins two metal fill tubes at about a 45 degree angle. We had the same problem on a 100kw genset and found a genuine replacement but it cost almost $300. As a temporary solution, we bought an inner tube for a motorcycle tire and made one.
I think you might be overly concerned with the top heavy aspect, the big box makes it look scarier than it is. I did a little homework when I got an M1079 a while ago. In retrospect, for the versatility I wish I bought the M1078 and put a shelter on it.
The data plate on the M1078 says the...
The forklift can do 8000#, so no need to unload. We just need to get the slings figured out, I don't remember where the lift points are on the trailer.
I have an assortment of nylon lift straps, just don't know for sure if I have 4 fairly long ones that are the same length but should be able to...
I agree with Rusty, nutserts are great and pretty easy to use. I've used in lots of different situations. You do need to install correctly or it can start spinning when you start torquing the bolt into it.
Sometimes that can be cured by putting the tool back on and cranking it down a little...
