My first was a 1963 Studebaker with the LDS-427-2. Paid $900 for it and drove it home, that 427 was a better performer than a 465, that truck screamed. Sold it for $4500 after paint. Second was an AMGen. Paid $3500 for it and $250 to haul it home 25 miles.Sold it for $3000 and a Volvo Sugga...
mcmullaq, Cape Cod is very sandy and covered with short dense Scrub Pine. The trees do not grow to tall so the trucks push them out of the way, and clear a fire break at the same time. The bars also help keep the trucks from sinking too deep into the soil when they do get stuck. I have seen many...
I found this site. Some of you will like it. It has many military trucks converted into firetrucks. They really start in the 1940s section. Here is the link:

The LDS-465-1A will fit with a few modifications. You will need the multifuel front engine mount and you will have to modify the 2 bolt holes on the front crossmember as they do not line up with the MF engine mount. These bolt holes allow the mounting bolts to pass through the crossmember, the...
Hey Recovry4x4, your wrecker is fine, you should be very happy with it. You have done a really fine rebuild on it and you should be very proud of yourself. The only person who should care about the vehicle is the owner, no one else matters, no one! My M52A2 is blue and red and I don't give a...
poppop, your M813 may be ex USAF. I know material is transfered from one branch to another. I remember years back when some of the equipment the Marines received was old Army equipment. Tanks and trucks mainly. The Marines went into the first Iraq conflict with M60 MBTs while the Army had M1s.
In Massachusetts if it registered as an antique it only has to have the original equipment. But if is registered commerical it has to meet all DOT regulations.
That truck was next town over from me, he kept it in Charlton,MA. The fellow had it for sale for quite a while and would not budge on $20k. You got a really sweet truck, and a super deal. I took it out for a test drive and it ran very well. Best of luck with it.
I have had several MILITARY trucks that were not OD. They came from the factory painted a different color at the factory over primer, not over OD. I had a white M37 from the Corps of Engineers, an M725 and an M51 that were Air Force Strata blue. I also had an M51A1 that was painted orange, again...
I have seen this before in a Mack. A mechanic was trying to install a clutch assembly solo and dropped it onto the concrete floor, he put it back in and it failed in a couple of days. It fractured just like yours did. It dropped straight down and landed on the edge.
I should have told you in my first post, most of the folks at the Boyertown Museum are volunteer, and do not work full time. They have been friendly and helpful to me but are not speed demonds.
Lee;
How great is the fellows need and how much do you need to sell items for to make a profit, or at LEAST break even.I would pay the following, items A-E $50-100, F up to $200,G&H up to $50, I $700, J $800. Those are the prices that I would pay. And that price is to YOU alone because we...
The no load means just what it says. Other than spare parts for your truck the only thing you can carry is air.I doubt that you would get bagged for camping gear or similar items, but by registering your ride as an antique you give up the right to haul. I have a freind in CT. who was taking his...
RE: Replacing Filament Bulbs with LEDs... anyone done it yet
An LED runs off of 3 volts.Resistors are used in the light assembly to reduce the voltage to the LED. The higher the voltage the vehicle has , the larger the resistor has to be.
I had a WC-1 a few years ago and IF I remember correctly the axle was held in place by lock cones. Clean the area under the flange nuts and see if it looks like a very tight lock washer is recessed there. If so , take a very large sledge hammer and strike the center of the flange. I do not mean...
RE: Adition from Dave
All the pre 900 series 5tons used a 15" spicer clutch assembly. I went into my shop and double checked. I have two complete clutch assemblies, one off a gasser and one MF. They are indenticle. I know the MF will change with the Mack and Cummins. I hope this helps.
RE: Re: RE: lock up deuce brakes
I placed an adjustable proportioning valve on a 2.5T I used to own. I mounted it where the front flex line attached to the frame. It really made a difference in handling during hard brake application. I was able to prevent front wheel lock up and maintained...
RE: Soft Top/Windshield/Side Window Water Leaks, Any Good Cu
Lee, I have a good trick, to seal the windshields that works if you still want to open the windshields. You will need acetone, black RTV and petroleum jelly. Open the WS and clean the rubbers and outer WS frame with the acetone.Brush...
