Starting the re-assembly of the truck after restoring all the parts. First up is the wiring (done) and the speedometer cable. I tried for over an hour to align the new spedo cable to the transfer case. If you ever did this you know it is a round end with with a keyway at the transfer. You...
What is the spade or "U" shaped casting for on the lower front spring plates? Never noticed these till the front body parts were removed and I pressured washed 60 years of crud off the axels. Picture attached.
Can anyone supply a picture of the proper decal placements on the tailgate and drivers side door area if the spare is mounted on the door? I have seen several variations of these and other areas of the trucks. Maybe pictures of all sides as stock for 1952 will help. Hood decals are known but...
A Few Pictures of The Retainers
$5 a box of 25. Picture of old rivet and new retainer. Head is the same diameter and the shaft fits the holes as stock.
Split Rivet Replacement
I found a great replacement for the split rivets discussed here. I have used plastic retainers in other projects and thought I would see if one would work on the M37 weather strips. A company called Au-ve-co makes thousands of body shop items so I went though the...
Media blasted the last items but boy what problems. The hood and front fenders could not be completely stripped with the media. The hood was the worst and, as you can see in the picture, black primer and a lime green paint resisted the blasting. The other top coats came right off. That stuff is...
Yep, I just found a manual for installing a heater on that fender. Looks like those knockouts on the cowl are for the ducts so that question is also answered.
Gloss
The problem is not as much color as gloss. I've painted lots of 24087 over the years and NEVER saw gloss like the can I just used. It shines like a nice new laquer car. Not sure what is going on but it stopped my painting until I get a new batch or, I may shoot 1 coat with this lot and...
Got caught again in Gilispie 24087 lot numbers in a case. Shame on me as I got the same thing a few years ago with a case of gallons. You would think a 4 gallon case would be the same lot. I had to open a new can today to paint more blasted parts from Friday. What a difference in color and...
Media blasted the last of the removed parts today including the front fenders. Discovered 4 "knockouts" in an almost square pattern on the drivers side fender. Of course on my truck the knockouts have not been removed but you can see them in the pictures attached. (2) 5/16" and (2) 7/16" . In...
Thanks
Thanks again to all. I still hope to have everything blasted and painted by summers end. Then, rewire and reassemble over the winter. My only dilema is the tail gate. It's bent several ways and I have no way to straighten it.
Does the passenger seat back assembly "hook" at the top and fasten with two bolts at the bottom? I need to remove it from the cab for the media blasting and can't see back there.
Same for lots of things on these trucks. Many served for 25 years or more so parts were interchanged with what was current. I saw one M37 at GL in Chambersburg about 8 years ago so it was stuck somewhere in the system before the sale and may have served into the 2000's. I have had more then a...
Now that the truck is all apart and my excel spread sheet of all the fasteners I removed is finished, I started looking at all the periphery washers used. What is puzzleing is the manual 9 SNL G-741 shows regular washers, or none at all, and not periphery washers. Once again I'm at a loss...
OK, that makes sense. Of all the trucks I have looked at, none had the welting on the lower part of the fenders. I got a "set" or welting with the truck and figured out the top part but the bottom seemed too long so possibly it needs cut to fit. Thanks to all!
I don't think we are on the same page. I know about the welting for the engine compartment side panels being rivited on and I have those pieces. The rivits in my pictures are on the rear of the front fender flange where the rear splash pans meet. It seems there was some weather strip between...
