It sounds to me like the Exciter wire may have an issue some where in the Harness. Be sure the wire is good at the Alt. Hook up. I think I lost quite a bit of Hair this week with Glow plug issues. I finally changed one M1008 to manual and by using "THE card" from one truck and installing it on...
I have had 2 M1008 and turn signal problem on both. I was lucky to find the Quick solution! The main wire running to the rear lights was Burnt on the Exhaust pipe on the inside frame rail. Exhaust was Too close to frame and Coocked the wires. Same place on both vehicles. Check it out, Phil
What vent plug, on the Fuel filter? You may have to remove it and check the Seal, or O ring seal. Wost thing, if it is on the Fuel filter, you may need to get a new filter. Good Luck, Phil
I have converted 2 m1008 to 12 volt. I had installed the starter and by using an piece of angle {AS shown}, I made mine from scratch. Install the starter, With new bolts, drill a 3/8 hole about 1/2 from the end, temp install on block, by SCRAPEING or Rocking the angle against the starter END...
I would not put fuel in the intake. It does nothing. I believe you had air in the lines. This could happen again if you have not found the problem. Could have a leaky fuel line Sucking air. Could be air from you removing the filter . Phil
Msoumas, are you allowing the Glow plugs to Cycle several times in this COLD weather? I allow them to Cycle once, turn key off, cycle a second time and even a third time. I then try to Crank. If no go, do it again, warm up those plugs. They are suppose to keep Warming up even after starting. It...
I pulled a Cat 3116 out of my GMC Top Kick and replaced it with a DT360 with Little problems. Had to cut Fan Bushing short by 3 ins.,different Clutch and Preassure plate., No intercooler, and it goes well!! Super good on fuel, and Smouth running engine!
Wow! With all that, I don;t remember us" Marines", losing any Motors while I was with the Engineers. Of course we Lost the Trucks because of Mines and Accidents. This was in Feb. 68 through Oct. 69. We did have a good Preventive Maintenance Program and Monthly Services. I still say these...
You must do some research about GCVW. I have a 1Ton with a GVW of 14000 pounds. The GCVW {WITH trailer is 27000 lbs. It depends what your trl weighs and what it is rated for. My trl is rated for 20,000 lbs. I can haul a Deuce leagally and 2 M1008s Plus . If you add dual wheels, the GVW also goes up.
I would be sure to find where the Nock is comming from. It could be Nock from the IP . or even in the clutch assm. What is you oil preassure running? Does it nock right away when you start it? These engines are as good as the person running it. The Life span is short in Millitary because guys...
The amount of money spent on Alt. You should have bought a 12volt starter{$153.00} and converted to 12 volt. I did 2 and much simpler to work with. Phil
Don;t jack up the vehicle. Have someone Shake the sreering wheel back and forth Quickly, as you check out the Tie rod ends, {also Listen closely, if Bad you can sometimes hear it Clunk} the Drag link, from steering box to left Knuckle. If all is tight, then go for Steering box bolts and then...
Thaqnks for the advice Joe! I got an M1008 with a gauge not working. I shall check it out tomorrow before I remove the Gauge. Can it be wired direct to the Batts, maybe through a fuse would make it Safer??
The gearing on this and the large tires will affect the driving at those altitudes. It goes better in 2nd gear so you should be running it in 2nd gear at the steep hills you are on. Don't be afraid to Crank on it. Remember, the M1008 runs high rpms like that all the time at 50-60mph. Phil
My M1008 has been starting OK so far in N.H., Cold mornings. I have noticed if I follow this sequence it starts sooner. Wait light goes out, crank for 3-4 seconds, turn switch to on, wait 3-5 secs. turn to start and hold trottle half way down. Starts up in 3-5 secs!!???? Make sure you have GOOD...
Good looking vehicles!! I sold a M1008 to a neighbor who went on a 250 mile trip this weekend and he averaged 23 MPG!!?? Thats amazing considering the gear ratio. Good luck with the vehicles. Where did you get them? Phil
