After much work, I have my dash indicators working properly. This is a video of a cold start of a 1984 M1009 at 50F this morning. Note the GEN 2 light stays on until the RPMs are high enough to activate the exciter (tap the accelerator); then the voltmeter gage goes from high yellow to green...
Need some direction on solving this problem. Stock 1984 M1009 from GL. Runs great except for the shake/shimmy at low idle. Not too noticeable at cold start-up fast idle. When it switches to low idle the motor shakes the front end and sounds like it is skipping. Lots of smoke. Motor mounts...
My friends M1008 will not turnover when cranked. The starter is new and has the Doghead relay mod. The truck is stock 24 VDC. I tried using my M1009 and a NATO slave cable. His voltmeter on the dash showed almost in the green. Nothing. I verified 28 VDC+ on the buss bars. I can hear the...
I have searched this site and some of the TMs but cannot find the procedure for bleeding the injectors. I have fuel to the IP and have confirmed good pressure (~8 psi). The problem is, it won't start because I am not getting fuel through the IP to the injectors. Am I missing something?
The time has come to rebuild the IP on my M1009. I have the TPs and other useful information on removal and installation. I can get the Stanadyne rebuild kits online for ~$30. I am quite handy and think I can tackle this task with some help. Does anyone know of any good videos or other...
With the tropical storm blowing through SC this morning, I had the opportunity to really rely on my windshield wipers. I also have read numerous threads about how slow or fast fellow members wipers are (or are not).
So, I came up with a real simple test and controls. First, dry windshields...
The 5A instrument fuse is good but no lights. Indicators, high beam, and blinkers work. I cleaned the instrument cluster connector and have it firmly seated. I have verified that the lights are good and have cleaned/greased the connectors. Batteries are good and load tested. Any suggestions?
Having gotten no response from CUCVElectric, I wanted to ask the forum if any of you have experienced this happening.
I have tried two legacy cards on two different M1009s. All the LEDs on the card work and my WAIT light comes on for just a few seconds (engine cold). Using a voltmeter, the...
My M1009 seems to idle rough and the engine vibrates. Smooth at highway speeds. Wondering if one of my injectors is bad. If I listen to each exhaust, one seems like it is rougher. Could this be a simple way of telling which side of the engine is giving me trouble? Eliminating four cylinders...
My M1009 was having a hard time starting; plenty of smoke and turnover but no start. Checked voltage at bottom of GP relay and had >11 VDC. Decided to remove a few plugs to check their condition. None were swollen but they all showed a lot of charred residue making them hard to slid out. I...
I need to replace the TH400 in my 85 M1009. Can any GM TH400 bolt up? Must it be from a 4WD? Must it be from a diesel? Any short shaft vs. long shaft issues? I can find many but just want to get the right one, if it matters.
This has me stumped! My M1009 is a very smooth riding CUCV, except at idle. At idle is shakes. I thought it may be bad motor mounts. The engine seems to vibrate more than it should at idle and more than my other M1009. Mounts seem ok visually. I noted that my transfer case mounts were very...
What is the deal with hub temperatures? After driving under 6 miles around town (<50 mph) in under 15 minutes, I noticed that my front hubs are very hot (air temperature around 85°F). I could not hold my hand on them for longer than a second to two. Rear hubs were slightly warm. I have...
Getting prepared to pickup a M1031 from Redstone Arsenal next Friday morning. Plan is to tow it behind a Dodge 2500 back to Florence, SC. I will be taking AL and NW GA back roads until just north of ATL where I pick up I-75S to I-20E. Just wanted to see if anyone would be along that route in...
I have grown accustom to my CUCV operating perfectly (alright, just well) and then all of a sudden, develop a weird problem. My recent one is that now my voltmeter will slightly deflect when I turn my headlights on, brake, or even hit the turn signal. It will track with the turn signal...
Beyond the difference in what voltage you supply them, what is the difference inside? Heavier wiring, brushes, springs, etc.? A 24 V will supply more torque and speed for starting. Can you burn out a 12 V by feeding it 24 V?
I have a M1009 and I am trying to determine what some of the wires are that are attached to my 12 VDC harness block on the firewall. According to TM 9-2320-289-20, page F-11, there are only four wires: 12 VDC feed from the (-) battery #2 (rear), two blue wires that are together that feed to...
What are the advantages/disadvantages of these two types of starters on a M1008 (both 24 VDC)? I know the brackets are different. Are they interchangable? Any problems?
I have a 85 M1009. Shifting is quick and smooth. I am in third by 20 to 25 mph; resulting in a very slow acceleration. The kick-down switch on the accelerator is working fine. If I almost floor it, it will stay in first or kick-down. I have replaced the vacuum lines and modulator valve. I...
I have been running WVO and more recently WMO in my M1009 for over a year. Only when I switched to centrifuged WMO with 15% RUG did my power problems start. Starts fine (hot or cold engine) and runs smooth. However, no power. Will not go over the curb to my driveway! Ran Seafoam for 500...
