    Varnish/Stain for Fuels?

A friend who does custom wood flooring has a 55 gallon drum of used varnish and stain (i.e., Minwood, etc.). Can this be cut and burned in a M1009 6.2L engine? I have been running UVO and UMO for over a year with no problems. We were talking yesterday and he just mentioned it. I told him I...

    M1009 Fender Sticker

Does anyone have this sticker on the drivers side fender? Does anyone have the same GM codes?

    M1009 Pintle Assembly

Does anyone know where I can get the entire pintel assembly from? I need the pintel and all mounting plates and brackets that attach to the frame and rear bumper. Mine is completely missing.

    Starter Shim Question

My M1009 starter ever so often grinds. I let it cool for a minute or so and it engages just fine. Should I remove the starter shim to allow the starter and flywheel to engage about 1 or 2 mm closer? Would this harm anything?

    Starter Failure

Was very lucky. M1009 starter sheared off outer bolt and failed to engage flywheel. The front bracket had come apart from the block and the torque snapped the bolt. Got two new bolts from GM and the block bolt from Home Depot thanks to the information in the sticky. Had it back on in under...

    M1009 Resistor Bank

I have removed the resistor bank from the vehicle. What is the resistance suppose to be? What will it be if the resistors are bad? Truck had the bank by-passed. When I connected it and measured the voltage going to the glow plugs it started at ~10 VDC and then started climbing! I shut it...

Who Uses the Recommended Starting Procedure?

Above 32°F, do you hold the accelerator pedal down half way while starting? Below 32°F, do you hold it down all the way? One of my M1009s will start the first time without any pedal holding after one GP cycle. I have tested this down to around 19°F! The other one requires more than one...

This is Why You Need to do the Doghead Mod

Just did the mod. Works great. Solid 'clunk' when energized. Take a look at how small the windings are in the OEM relay! Also, when I got the relay bar out, I noticed the GEN 2 relay was missing! After a quick trip to AdvanceAuto and $12, my GEN 2 light now works!

    Anyone Running Smittybilts?

Just got a set of Smittybilt G.E.A.R. seat covers for my M1009 in OD for Christmas. Excellent product and fit. Just wondering if others have them and what kind of parts/gear they are putting in the MOLLE pockets.

Cannot Get M1009 Fuel Filter to Purge

Help! I cannot get the filter to flow. I have tried the TM. I have connected an electric fuel pump to the small output side of the fuel filter and get nothing, even while purging with the cap off and the pink wire disconnected. The beast will not start, or if it does, will not hardly run...

    No fuel when priming

While running V-85 in my 85 M-1009, I dumped in about 2 gallons of filtered WMO. I drove it about 10 miles the same day with no issues. The next morning, it started but starting losing power after about a mile on the road. I could not get it to stay started and towed it home. I changed out...

    Wait Light on Momentarily

When I turn the key, the wait light comes on for about 2-3 seconds. Looking at the voltage gauge I can see that the plugs are warming. After about 15 seconds (depending on temp, etc.), I know to listen for the relay to open and the gauge to rise, signaling that the glow plug cycle has...

    Speedometer Gear Repair

My M1009 speedometer was really jumping around and at time would stop working altogether. I disconnected the speedo cable from where it enters the transmission and attached a drill to the inner square metal cable. While you spin it, check to see if the guage is working. If so, the problem is...

    Smells like....

Smelled that burning electrical last night. Looks like a diode on the GPR card is toast. Anyone know what this component is and if I can get a replacement at Radio Shack? Vehicle will not start as the GPs are staying energized.

    Gen 2 Suppressor Number

Does anyone have a reference number to the Generator 2 suppressor (condenser) that is attached to the negative bolt and ground? I am converting back to a two gen system and need to purchase one.

    Stuck with no 4WD!

Took my M1009 off-road over the weekend. Hubs were locked and I was in 4L. Got stuck and realized my front tires were not turning! Everything was turning except the tires! What gives?

    ATF Flow Direction

Changing the ATF tomorrow and want to disconnect one of the ATF cooler lines that goes into the radiator and connect to a hose to completely drain the fluid. Which one does it flow OUT of, the upper or lower line on the drivers side of the radiator?:grd:

Does anyone know where I can find a replacment for my M1009? I spent most of Saturday in junk yards but to no avail.

    Glow Plug Card

I have the opportunity to score several cards from civi diesel trucks (Blazers and pickups). Will these also work in a M1009?

    R Stands for Rev

My new M1009 project truck does not like reverse. All forward gears are fine, no slipping and good shifting and down shifting. Reverse is another matter. With some revving, it will start to slowly move backwards. Once it gets going, it goes. I have topped off the T fluid and put in some...
