I saw a video of a M1009 in Europe with the amber side mounted turn signals. Looked very cool, and dare I say, even stock. What would it take to pull this off? I need the electrical wizards to show me what to tap into (Doghead??). Also, should they stay lit or only flash?
Could be bad batteries, have them load tested. If not batteries, the resistor bank could be failing, supplying over 14 V to the relay and thus causing it to cycle to protect your glow plugs. A multimeter can tell you that very quickly; just check the voltage on the top post of the glow plug...
So, a new turn signal lever with intermittent wipers will work (they are about $15 new) but just will not delay? I am assuming that you just keep rotating until you get to the low and high setting?
After fueling up at Sam's Club a few nights ago, the WIF light comes on and stays on occasionally. I can tell no difference in performance. As per the instructions, I stop and drain out the filter and the light stays off for a while. My question is: how much water does it take to trip the...
Four-wheel drive light works too. I worked all weekend getting the red dust off the interior of the truck from the GA rally! I went through a small bottle of Armor All. Thanks for noticing!
After much work, I have my dash indicators working properly. This is a video of a cold start of a 1984 M1009 at 50F this morning. Note the GEN 2 light stays on until the RPMs are high enough to activate the exciter (tap the accelerator); then the voltmeter gage goes from high yellow to green...
Need some direction on solving this problem. Stock 1984 M1009 from GL. Runs great except for the shake/shimmy at low idle. Not too noticeable at cold start-up fast idle. When it switches to low idle the motor shakes the front end and sounds like it is skipping. Lots of smoke. Motor mounts...
My nine year old son and the M1009 will be heading out Friday morning assuming I get the new injectors installed this week! We attended the Uharrie, NC event a few years ago and had a great time. I hope to see some old friends and make some new ones. We will be heading from SC on I-20 between...
My friends M1008 will not turnover when cranked. The starter is new and has the Doghead relay mod. The truck is stock 24 VDC. I tried using my M1009 and a NATO slave cable. His voltmeter on the dash showed almost in the green. Nothing. I verified 28 VDC+ on the buss bars. I can hear the...
Looks about a 2 to 3 second maximum on the WAIT time. Maybe a slightly longer time would have resulted in a faster start; depending on prior engine temperature and such?
IP shut-off solenoid clicks when red wire is connected and ignition on. Appears to be working. When it does start, the IP performs fine; smooth idle and plenty of power. Trouble is on cold start; warm start is not a problem. Considering rebuild but want to exhaust all options first and I am...
I have searched this site and some of the TMs but cannot find the procedure for bleeding the injectors. I have fuel to the IP and have confirmed good pressure (~8 psi). The problem is, it won't start because I am not getting fuel through the IP to the injectors. Am I missing something?
The IP runs fine when it finally cranks! I think I have some internal leakage issues that causes it to loose prime. That is my motivation for working on it.
I am taking the dive. Removed the air intake manifold this morning with little difficulty. Keep track of the bolts; they are different so map them where you removed them from! I will be certain to heed that advice next time. Once off, the IP and all lines are easily accessable. Removed the...
