Sounds like a good start. Be sure to check the transfer case oil pump and ensure that it is working.
It is likely that the front steering gear has water in it, especially if it has been exposed to the elements. Water will pool around where the steering column hooks to the gear and if the seal is...
Do you have a replacement window in the frame, or just the glass?
If it's already in the frame, that's easy to do, shouldn't be a problem. Bring your new window, some grease for the window regulator while we're in there, and some silicone spray for the window channels.
The M35 tribute truck "Squatter Swatter" was built by Eddie Black and his son in Palmetto, Georgia. Unfortunately Eddie was killed in a car wreck a few years ago.
He also built another M35 tribute truck called "Thunder Road". It had armor on the sides similar in shape to some of the trucks...
If you really want to get down to it, my November 1977 dated copy of TM 9-2320-211-10 (Operators Manual for Truck 5-Ton, 6X6, M39 Series) states that following on page 2-53 under "Stopping the truck and engine":
"c. After the truck had come to a complete stop, move the gearshift lever (3) into...
To my knowledge there haven't been any diesel powered bikes sold yet. GL did auction off a new in the crate gas 650 a few months ago. It sold for more that the gov paid for it new!
More highway friendly? I'm not a big motorcycle guy but I have an M1030B1 (KLR650) and it'll go a lot faster than I care to ride it. With 42 HP it'll cruise effortlessly just off idle at 45MPH and has plenty of get up and go on the hills! I haven't ridden it on the highway, but I wouldn't think...
Hi Fred,
I think I know the truck that you're looking at. There was a 1/2 ton WC in the convoy that had a home made all wood bed on it. It was wider than the standard bed. If I remember correctly the wheel wells were entirely inside the bed; there were no rear fenders on the outside. It was...
Unfortunately I don't have any mounts for sale. I usually recommend Doug Green at Bismarck Guns & Artillery for pedestal mounts. Be sure to tell him that Joe sent you!
See attached pictures. Both the new STAs and the old Denmans pictured are marked both NDT and Mud and Snow on the same tires.
Square shouldered NDTs were actually used on several post WW2 vehicles including 9.00-16s on M37s and M715s, 6.00-16s on M422 Mighty Mites, and 12.00-20s on the M246...
Considering that my Dad and I have an M816 and also that we are taking one belonging to the Montgomery County Military Museum on the Arkansas MVPA convoy in a few weeks, I figured it would be a good idea to know how to properly tow other vehicles. I've used the crane a lot to move engines, power...
Welcome! I spend several months of the year working at the Montgomery County Military Museum in Mt. Ida, Arkansas (West of Hot Springs on lake Ouachita). I'm also a firefighter with the Joplin VFD and we run two M35A3 1,200 gallon tankers. They aren't my favorite trucks, but they get the job...
My WC-51 has an M37 master cylinder on it and it works, but I'm replacing it with a proper WC part when I rebuild the brakes. The master cylinder on a 3/4 ton WC sits slightly at an angle and the reservoir on an M37 master cylinder can not be filled all the way when used in this application. The...
Hi Eric,
Dad's M37 was rebuilt at MCLB Albany, GA in 1968. I'm going to guess that it may have been surplused there later on. While he did not purchase it directly from the Gov, Dad has owned his truck for about 25 years. Do you have a picture of 303181? It's kind of interesting, I have a mighty...
