Put air to the clutch while idling and could see the fan speed up, did it at 1500 rpm and you really hear it. Hard to think I would miss it running even at highway speed. New actuator on order.
Also having cooling issue with the M923A1. It's always run at 180 for the few times we drive it. Took it to a 4th of July parade about 2500 feet uphill and 98 degrees. The temp started to climb and I never did hear the fan come on. It got a little over 200 then we started to level off and slow...
On my M923A1 the transmission, transfer case, eng, and axles all have dates or date codes. IF they haven't been changed or the tags fallen off you at least have a starting point to get close.
My eng was '83, but all the running gear was late '84.
There was a "factory" splice (union) at the transfer case. It shows this on the parts list. I've got to replace the entire section and the tank and union ends are all flares. Assuming flex hose end is the same. I meant to say running "from near the fuel pump", so sure line is going to filter...
I need to replace the copper fuel return line on a deuce. This is the line that runs from the inj pump flex hose to the fuel tank. It's on the driver side inside of frame crossing near transfer case to fuel tank. Can I use refrigerant soft copper tubing for this? I found a part number for the...
Started the registration process and the CA dmv sent me to the CHP to have the vin verified. I told the officer the axles were mfg in mid Sept 1984 and the truck should probably be a 1985. He said the eng date is '83 so the truck is a '84, so that's what year I get. Not that big a deal. I have...
Well thanks for the input, went to an auction looking at an M925, then I saw the A1, I saw the singles and that was it. Yes at 55mph on certain roads it does seem like a ride at Disneyland, but I'm happy with it. I have another post about lucking out with this truck at GL.
Transmission, Axle & Transfer Case Date Code
Getting closer to finding out what year my M923A1 is. Found the Transmission date code is year and a letter for the month (example h =8th month- August) Allison offers a web page to insert serial number and it comes up with model and what accessories...
I've googled and searched the forums, but haven't found anything. Does anyone have any good sources for fuel flow, coolant, etc diagrams for the Cummins NHC250?
Thanks
Randy
I must have been having a long senior moment. Having done 6 deuces I should have remembered what the numbers looked like. I found the numbers, they are horizontal and just to the right of the two vertical numbers. They are so light as to make the early Egyptians proud. I'm down to bare metal and...
Getting Closer
Thanks for your help. I've looked at some trucks up for auction and all the M923A1's have 5 digits after the C523, except one that has 6 digits. They all state "year unknown". The engine is dated MFG 8-83, so 1984 sounds close. You can see where I've cleaned the paint, should I...
M923A1 Year of Mfg Help
Howdy, hate to be a pain but I'm not having any luck finding out what year my truck is. Carnac returned info that it is a 1995. Bless his noggin for all that he does, but he is unable to definitively determine year of mfg.
1995 may be a rebuild date. I talked to American...
This drawing does not show the shifting fork or synchronizer assy which is on the center of the input (red) shaft.
The synchronizer moves forward (low range) or aft (high range) to engage a gear and drive the counter (center) shaft.
You could have worn synchronizer, bad bearings on low range...
Spoke too soon, Carnac has come through, I have my info. Truck from 372D QUARTERMASTER BN HHD, Kirtland NM. Maybe someone can clue me in as to the branch of service. Also truck is 1995, which makes the state of CA happy, but not me. Costs for registration have gone from $81.00 a year to over...
Have posted for Mr. Carnac, but no answer yet as I'm sure he's one busy guy (and greatly appreciated). I'm leaning towards leaving it as is, at least for now. The controls add a more industrial and important look to the cab.
