The truck I had with a wooden bed had "car decking". As I recall it was 2 or 3 inches thick (true dimension) and tongue & groove.
I'd make it at least 2 inches thick. That's just me though ("when in doubt, make it stout").

Walnut would be exquisite! Matching seats and side rails would really be beautiful! I would really encourage you to use walnut (especially a nice grainy dark walnut).
Oak will just turn black if it gets wet and maple, while hard, is just rather plain, and it will turn yellow in the sun; walnut...
What kind of wood do you plan on using?
Last summer at an old tractor / threshing show I saw a late 1940's civilian power wagon with true 2 inch thick, wide plank, teak flat bed and headache rack. The bed was absolutely gorgeous (and probably worth more than the truck). The guy who owned it was...
Is the truck going to live outside or inside? If it is going to live outside the wood will probably hold water and rot / rust things faster.
I had a M-37 (waaaaay back in the mid 70s) that had a wooden flat bed on the back with wooden removeable sideboards. It was a great modification for a...
I'm a contract engineer in the large commercial aircraft field. My last contract (which ended last July) was with a large airline. Toilet seats, just like the ones you buy at Lowe's, Home Depot, or Wal-Mart cost $1400 each for either the seat or lid. If you bought a complete toilet seat (lid and...
G741 has a thread on this with quite a bit of detail. He are my notes from those threads.
The cost to the U.S Government of a factory new M-37 was $4079 without winch and $4487 with winch. These are late 1940's (design period), early 1950's (initial production period prices).
This is...
I enjoyed your website and am now a little more knowledgeable (anything added to zero is a vast increase in knowledge).
It looks like a S-144 might even be better since it is lighter (900 vs 1200 lbs). As long as the external dimensions are the same, I really don't care which way the door...
What is the difference between the S-89 and the S-144?
One of the reasons I like the S-89 is because you can still use the top bows and canvas to cover it up.
I've got a whole bunch of green radios to put in the shelter (A/N GRC-3, -5, -7, A/N GRR-5, & a A/N VRC-7. There are others I could...
Do any of you guys know of an S-89 that is looking for a new home? Please let me know if you do or you hear of one. I'm looking to adopt one.
Thanks,

Glad to hear you don't have issues requiring a lawyer. They are nice to have around when you need them but it does increase the stress level in your life.
BTW, worry is interest on trouble that is paid before it falls due.

Get the letter. Read it. If it is a jury summons, oh well. If it is a HOA or code violation AND you want to fight it, call your attorney and turn it over to him. My bet is that somebody will back down when they see an attorney.
It will cost you a few $$. It will probably cost you either way...
I've got a bunch of misc fuel fired heater parts (control boxes, wiring, fuel pumps, heaters, diverter boxes etc). I have no idea what it all goes to (I only know it doesn't fit my M-37). If people know what they want / need please PM me and I'll start digging through it all (it is in a heated...
When I was in the military ('68 to '71) and we actually used these trucks and trailers, everything was painted (sort of the same color; mostly). I NEVER saw any bare wood or "pretty stuff"; it was all "functional" and per the manual.
That's just anecdotal, but that was my experience, back in...
Does anyone recognize this antenna mount (see photos)? I've had it for a loooooong time. There was a homemade mount for it to fit the knock-out holes on the bed of my M-37, but I doubt it is a stock .mil application. I seem to remember something about it being an armor mount. It takes the MS-53...
