    Another CUCV Daily Driver thread.

Gross combined weight rating is the tow capacity plus the GVWR. Manufacturers list it on their websites for current models, the tough part is digging up the info for older models. Somewhere I'm sure you could just dig up the tow capacity, which, I'm pretty sure, is 9500 pounds on-road. Hauling...

    Another CUCV Daily Driver thread.

GVWR is the weight of the vehicle. Has nothing to do with tow rating, it means you can have 2900 lbs of stuff in the cab, bed, etc. You're thinking GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating), and I'm not sure what it is. As I recall, the 1008 is rated to tow 3500 pounds off road, 9500 on-road, but I'm...

    Another CUCV Daily Driver thread.

Ok, I'm confused. You mention wanting to get a newer, 3/4 ton Ram, which would be likely be better for you- an M1008 will get the job done, but the newer Ram would likely do it better- and then you say your limit is $1000- something tells me that you couldn't get a newer, more capable truck for...

    Another CUCV Daily Driver thread.

The 1008 is fine for towing almost any reasonable load, the only drawback is that it doesn't have much in the way of highway gearing, though. Pretty darned capable off-road, within the limitations of it's size and weight. If you're looking for a beefy, relatively inexpensive truck that can...

    Anybody replaced the alternator brushes?

I'm planning to put on a pretty sizable inverter pretty soon, so I'd rather have the alternators in better condition than worse. I'm not in a huge rush, but I'll have some time in December and January, so I'd rather do it rather than wait until they crap out.

    Anybody replaced the alternator brushes?

    Nobody?

    Need 700R4 TV cable bracket

Ok, so the newer SM465s came with 32 spline, meaning I could use the existing NP208? Would I still need an adapter? Which trucks could I get the driveshafts out of? Obviously 1-ton, but are 3/4 ton parts the same?

    Need 700R4 TV cable bracket

I've got the 700, torque converter, NP241 and a couple other parts, thanks, though. Looks like the parts that I do have may be going up for sale.

    Need 700R4 TV cable bracket

That's the problem- the diesel. If I had a gasser, it wouldn't be an issue at all, TV brackets are pretty commonly available for any reasonably, remotely common setup, dime a dozen. After much thought/discussion though (to the point that my girlfriend, friends, co-workers, turtles, lizard and...

How to clean oil spots on CARC

I'd think that brake cleaner would evaporate fast enough that it wouldn't be a major issue, that's why I'd use it over, say, carb cleaner for something like this.

    Need 700R4 TV cable bracket

I've got a torque converter, NP241, 700R4, TV cable sticking out of the trans, and a pile of bolts. Flexplate should be on its way soon, or I can just get it from the auto parts store. I need the TV cable bracket, transfer case adapter/pedestal and torque converter lockup wiring. The latter...

    Need 700R4 TV cable bracket

Anybody got a good source? Any and all help appreciated. It's one of the few remaining pieces I need to get the 700 in my truck.

    Anybody replaced the alternator brushes?

My alternators are doing fine (had them checked by a local battery/alternator/starter shop that rebuilds them and whatnot), but I was shown that they have 25-30% of the brushes left. Bearings and whatnot seem to be OK. They want $100 each for the rebuilds, which isn't really necessary. I see...

    Engine and T-case rebuild

I know this doesn't directly answer your question (I've never really priced out rebuilds- if it came to that I'd do the work myself) but I'll throw out my two cents- I'm planning to find and rebuild a 6.5L for if/when the 6.2 goes. Easy, bolt-in type swap, and a little power boost.

    flat towing a m1008 with a m1009

I'd rather flat tow it than put it on a trailer. That said, I don't think it's advisable, but if you keep your speeds down and don't do any sudden moves, it should be OK. Falls into the "bad idea, but you can make it work" category.

    Need 24v M1008 Voltage Gauge

Do you want an original "idiot light" type of gauge, or do you want something that reads 0-28v or whatever? If the former, check the vendors and classifieds for people parting out these trucks, or somebody will respond. If the latter, any auto parts or electronics supply store should be able to...

    M1009 glow plug question

Is the wait light coming on for the proper length of time? Do you hear the glow plug relay clicking?

Genneral Questions about CUCVs, still trying to get one!

Maybe, maybe not. What if the truck you buy from GL craps out with 2000 miles to go? I don't mean busts a hose and slows you down by a day, I mean what if the trans lets go? What do you do if the driveshaft is really bent (very common)? How about if the trans is cracked and you don't find out...

Genneral Questions about CUCVs, still trying to get one!

    1. Don't know about the tires for the 1009, but the 1008's aren't great, but aren't awful, either, and they're about 32". 4-way lockers? The 1009 has the gov-lok (gov-bomb), the 1008 a Detroit Locker (both have front opens) and the 1028 has a front limited-slip and a Detroit in the rear. 2...

    Anybody seen Hoot_223 ?

RE: Re: RE: Anybody seen Hoot_223 ? ...and in a recent PM to me he said he had 2. I think he's just trying to set himself up to claim "it never happened and I don't know what he's talking about." Well, he can't delete this thread, or the one over on CK5, or all the PMs that I've saved, or my...
