Google "SB chevy intake manifold bushings" (maybe someone more computer savvy than me can post the link to Summit Racing, I tried & failed).
These bushings are used on sb chevys to solve a problem similar to the one you are having. The 1986 & earlier sb intake manifolds would not bolt up to...
This subject got me thinking back to when aa member here (Ithink it was Cucvrus) replaced some motor mounts on a CUCV. It seemed odd to me that they said they had to use the ones from a gas 350 and not a 6.2 diesel. Now I'm wondering if this has something to to with the lack of a strut rod...
As others have said, whenever possible, we are better off searching for used GM sheet metal.
That being said, I have seen some decent fitting aftermarket sheet metal on some of the parts trucks that I parted out.
One 85 k20 had front fenders made by Gordon Autobody parts that fit good.

The blazers never came with a 14 bolt rear axle. If I was a betting man, my money says someone probably bolted in a 14 bolt from a 3/4 ton truck. A 3/4 ton 14 bolt doesn't require you to change spring perches or swapping spring hangers like a 1 ton axle does.

Quality paint does not come cheap.
My civy 81 Chevy 8' stepside has DuPont basecoat/clear coat paint. The paint, reducer...
Cucvrus, can you do a little write up with pictures when you do the inline fuse on the light fuse.
I know in the past you have mentioned doing that with the heater fuse. A few pics would be great.
Thank you.
Have you looked to see if B&M makes a reverse light switch for your shifter?.
My 69 Camaro has a Hurst 1/4 stick shifter (yes Cucvrus, its an old race car turned street car). Both the neutral safety switch and the reverse light switch were options that I had to buy separately.
If you are doing the R&R I think the $500 would just about cover the cost of getting your Turbo 400 rebuilt by a good shop. That used trans is still 30+ years old. Why not start out with a fresh rebuild?
