Thank you.
I pushed the grommet from the engine compartment into the cab. When I seen that the plug was a tight fit, I figured I'd check and get a second opinion. Its been a long day, I didn't want to force it and break it. I'll have at it some night this week and get the harness out.
Thanks again.
I'm in the process of stripping a rusty M1008 for parts.
I have all of the plugs on the underdash wiring harness unplugged. I can't get the plug that connects to the engine wiring harness to fit through the firewall. I pushed the grommet into the cab, the plug just seems to big for the...
I'm glad to see your putting the gate to good use.
I think we all have parts that we are saving for "some day". For the mule, that day has come.
Great job saving another CUCV.
Thanks SweetK30, that explains it.
Mine steering wheel was just off a few degrees after I installed 2" HD Tough Country springs. I decided to play around with the horn ring to straighten the wheel out when I had the column apart to change the ignition lock.
With the steering wheel...
Am I missing something here?
I was able to reposition my steering wheel by disassembling my column down to the horn contact ring (the green plastic piece in the pics).
Its the prong on the horn contact ring that dictates the position of the steering wheel, not the splines themselves.
There...
I'm with nyoffroad on this one. I'm thinking its the starter relay.
Is it still the stock relay? If so I would drop down the relay mounting bracket. Now start the truck and carefully unplug the relay while the truck is running. See if this solves the problem. If it does, leave it unplugged (...
How does your truck sit with the 2"/3" spring combo? I was thinking of going that route with mine. That extra 1" in the rear should make it appear to be level.
Thanks.
My N1028 has 2" Tough Country HD front springs and 285/75R16 tires. It measures 27.5" to the bottom of the front D ring mount.
I would think that 37" tires and a 4" lift would be right around 31.5".
I owned a civy Chevy with a super lift 12" lift with 44" Super Swampers.
I hated it.
I lowered it down with a 6" lift and 35" BFG's and drove it daily. It was like a completely different truck.
To get reasonable driveshaft angles with a 12" lift was achieved by using a 2 wheel drive Turbo 350...
Why would I want to cover the studs that have voltage running to them? To prevent anything metal from touching them.
I spent a lot of time reading about the Doghead relay mod before I did it to my truck. I noticed that many people cover the studs with liquid electrical tape. I thought that...
I made a cover for the Doghead relay mod that I did to my 84 M1028 today.
I got a 2" round schedule 40 PVC cap at the hardware store for $1.49. I trimmed a piece of the cap off with a Dremel to make room for the wires.
I mounted the relay using 1/4" x 2" bolts. The cap fits nice and snug...
I did the Doghead relay mod today.
I've owned my 84 M1028 for 2 years. Its been a great truck, but I did have to fix a couple of issues that are common to CUCV's (death wobble and fuel filter base). I didn't want to deal with a burned up wiring harness next.
Thanks Doghead.
A lot of the police & fire departments around me still have CUCV's. They don't drive them very often, but you can spot them in the back parking lots behind the stations if you look for them.
