I tipped my jerry-can yellow, designating it as Diesel as stated before, but I have also seen pictures of them with the specific lettering ("Diesel" or "MOGAS" or "JP-5"), either horizontally or vertically written.
Edit:
Theres a little article on the markings here...
in addition to that mentioned before:
a gladhand adaptor, and enough air pressure line to walk around the vehicle with it, and a minimal number of air tools.
I also have two sets 45 ft "commando" rope with me, and a roll of electrical wire; also good to take along are a few cans of brake cleaner...
Maybe it was a glowplug-type diesel? I also read about holzgas-Diesels that have an additional oil-injection; here a small amount of oil is injected, which serves as an initial ignitor so the holzgas can fire upon it.
@ tmbrwolf: I shift the tcase only when the gears are in neutral, so there is no possibility of load coming from the front end while doing so, even if I slip the clutch by accident. EG I shift down from the 5th to neutral, then high gear, then into the forth. I also don't do that when the...
That's exactly what I have done half a year ago. I wouldn't sand-blast it either if it dowesn't have large areas that are rusted. Just sand it.
As for the stencils: I have found an army-style gothic true type font and used MS Word for creating the lettering myself. I printed the lettering on...
I remember my grandfather telling stories of the not-so-good old times and holzgas powered vehicles. They operated a small pickup that way - and rotated the duty of maintaining the kettle (right term?) weekly between the participants, because that was the most shitty and unthankful job one...
I run an approximate 60/40 WMO-Diesel mix and don't notice more smoke than with pure Diesel. I have the impression that the deuce runs better on the mix than with pure Diesel.
What could be of interest to others on hunt for free fuel is where I obtain it from: I get all the stuff for nothing...
I also thought that the skidmarks didn't belong to the truck, even though one seems to end under the front tire. I thought that maybe the driver went too fast and tried to cut the curve entering the intersection. Maybe the situation suddenly got too dense with the cyclist and other unexpected...
What a find! Save them!!
I saw one of those in Beltring a few years ago, it was awesome! I loved the CHAIN (was a big chain :-) ) driven rear wheels. A few french dudes drove it all the way from France to Beltring / UK with a huge trailer (with more mvs in it). Now thats a daring road trip...
My collegue had one which was re-engineered and rebuilt because there were some serious manufacturing flaws in the motor and drivetrain. It was a "new" one built in 1992. It had ball bearings with missing balls, missing gaskets and so on. They rebuilt the motor with new bearings and so on and...
