That looks like emulsified water/oil to me. With quite an amount of water, IMO.
But normally the deuce tranny is quite waterproof. The only opening I can think of where water can enter it is through the gear lever hole on top if it, expecially when the rubber boot is missing or in a bad shape...
RE: Spelling and look uo
Well, I don't know what I should think about that all. Maybe I'm a little old-fashioned, but to me these are no real military vehicles. Put some good looking armour plates on a civil truck, paint it in fashionable desert colors and call it military. Look at the...
Interesting, it seems this was a desert fighting vehicle.
The images below are from a presumably czech website.
A related article says the following, but I don't understand czech or polish:

:-) I run waste motor oil, transformer oil and gasoline at about 60-30-10 % right now, and the deuce loves it. Like said before, it runs quiter and maybe even has a little more power, but it smokes more when still cold after starting.
Hey boatdocter, you know what this kind of homework leads...
Great images! It's good that one of the range targets is saved, expecially one with such a rich history. You have a real jewel here.
I'm amazed that the armored hull is so brittle. Can you weld those longer cracks or do you patch it completely?

All deuces / m-series vehicles I have seen here in Germany had the lolli-pop lights facing backwards (makes perfect sense). Also all those vehicles had additional rectangular turnsignals facing sideways, like the M275A2 above (nice truck btw - what kind of lockouts are these on the front hubs...
My maintenance strategy is TMs, ps-articles (Connie Rodd and Half Mast help remembering things...) and common sense. I can't do always things by the book - that would be too costly and time-consuming.
Thanks guys! If someone plans to visit this place, just give me a call and we'll work out a nice trip (in style, with the deuce, of course).
@ BC: no, that was when I had trouble with the surpressor. I worked that out after the trip, thanks for your help!

Just as a round up, we've been there a second time, and were able to enter a casemate that was closed for at least two decades and had the deepest staircase I have ever seen in these structures (about 9 Levels under ground).

Joe, these tracks are eyewatering, but the most beautiful halftrackrelated item i ever saw is the accessory-unit on the front winch of the halftrack below
:-)
Steve, thanks for the info.
I cringed when I read the difference of 35.000 $ between a complete one in need of major bodywork and one that is relativly OK, but then again I've seen a DUKW once that needed extensive bodywork, which looked like a sheet-metal nightmare to me.
To a MV enthusiast...
The tires look like russian types to me. I dont't understand some people. If I were to sell something like that I would look that at least the tires are inflated properly. That makes a bad real bad impression and gives some clues about the seller - realistic or not.
I'll ask him if he built...
Hi,
I stumbled upon an ebay auction where a deuce is sold with a home made shelterbox and thought that might be of interest here. Looks lightweight but sturdy enough, because it apparently uses the stock bed as basis. From the looks its like some eastern-block shelters I have seen on russian...
On researching I found a large directory for "ducktours" here:
http://www.angelfire.com/trek/splashtours/
although some operators seemed to have closed down in the meanwhile. Like Metroducks in Chicago and Dayton on http://www.metroducks.com/ - the website says they are selling their...
While recently being on a trip to Ireland I thought I couldn't believe my eyes when strolling around Dublin. Suddenly a DUKW full of people drove past us. I've seen them a couple of times after that, but was never fast enough to pull out the camera, so the attached picture is not one of mine...
