Joseph,
do the speaker magnets actually pick something up in the tank? Would be interesting to know if they can attract very small ferrous objects in the oil. The larger ones are filtered out anyhow.
Another thing that makes me think is what if you dilute the wmo / umo with diesel or gas...
Mark,
if the correct markings are still an issue to you, you might want to check the TB-746-93-1
"1964-1976 Color and Marking of Military Vehicles, Construction Equipment, and Materials Handling Equipment"
see...
I stumbled upon an article about a guy who offers recycled industrial degreaser as Diesel substitute. He claims that the industry pays as much as 70 Euro-Cent per liter for getting rid of the stuff! There is some interesting data about the degreaser on the website below, which says that many...
Thanks guys. The size of the box will be dictated by the things it will have to hold, but the stencils should look original with the right sizing and nomenclature, so I'll appreciate any photo or descripition of it! Most of the crates I saw were also unpainted, so that's the way it willl look...
John,
I painted mine in these colors.
See attached pictures.
There is a great sticky from David Doyle on the right color for that era:

You also might want to have a look at a gallery on my website, where I collected a...
That is one nice looking deuce, congratulations!
I felt the same way you did when I picked up mine last year :-) (my family too...lol...)
You'll have a lot of fun with it!
Mark
I want to build a box appr. 4 by 5 ft for the permanent storage of things to take along on trips in the bed of the deuce. It will be constructed out of wood and should look like an typical, original shipping crate or box of some equipment.
I'm on the search of pictures now, expecially for...
Hey, congrats, nice machine!
And funny, I named our deuce "Garfield" too, but not after the cat. There was also a TV comic figure in the fifties named Garfield Goose (and friends).
BC, your're da man ! :-)
That's exactly what I was looking for! I soldered it already, tomorrow I'll see if it does what it should be doing...
Thanks!
BC, thanks for the explanation.
I don't have the surpressor here, that's the problem.
I wanted to solder the wire at home and take it with me to install it.
I found a picture in a VRC-12 TM, see below. At least I know which pins are shortened. Now I just have to find out the polarity.
I...
I want to go on a field trip with the deuce and a working VIC-1 tomorrow - just need to install the surpressor now. I have the right connector for the surpressor on the power-in socket of the unit, but I need to solder a cable on it with the right polarity.
Does anyone know or can point me to...
Nice pictures :-) The kids love the trucks.
This weekend I'll be on a field trip to France with the deuce and our oldest. Our first "men's weekend" together, doing it in style with "Garfield", the truck :-)
Ryan,
please forgive me, but I have to dispute this a little :-) I agree to a lot of your points, but:
The Maginot Line is long and there surely were various tactics on the german side to deal with it.
In the Haguenau sector (Alsace) the tactic was definitly to attack it frontally to knock the...
Ryan,
actually the line was assaulted frontally on some presumably weak points. The damage you see on the cupolas above are a result of that.
In my opinion and from what I know the technical and organizational aspects of the Maginot Line were among the most modern on the time when it was...
Just for a little round-up, below is a schematic picture of the casemate of Bois de Hoffen sud (south) to which the above image of the staircase belongs to. The view of the camera is marked in the schematic by the red arrow.
@medlog: Simserhof is definitly on my list of field trips...
Maxim, under those cupolas are large underground structures with tunnels that lead vertically upwards into the cupola itself. The crew was standing on a platform which could be lowered and raised very quickly, and when a cupola was under fire no one was in there (usually).
But I agree, the...
Hi,
we took the restaurated deuce to a trip over the border to France, where we visited the Hagenau-section of the Maginot-Line. For the historically inclined there is a good coverage of the matter in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maginot_Line .
The trip covered a lot of off-road...
I have yet to try a box seat, but I'm also 6'2" and am quite happy with the spring seat.
I like the idea of some extra storage in a box seat though.
I guess its a matter of sacrificing some ride comfort for maybe 2 inches of more leg/arm room and extra storage under the seat.
Nice solution, I plan on doing the same. I like the concept with the warning light and buzzer.
Where is the reservoir located? Can't figure it out from the pictures.
I would locate it behind the drivers seat on the left side, so the fluid level is easily visible when entering the truck, or...
