This has to be a Pacific northwest thing. I did a solo recovery of my M35A3 from Ft.Gillem Georgia to eastern Washington in early April. That was about 2,500 miles of adventure at 48mph.
I had the same sort of work problems too, so no goofing off and a lot of driving. The good news is that...
I'll post a pic this evening since a new one with no markings would be nicer.
I like tan but the old three color deserts were my favorite uniform and I like the colors. I keep thinking a three color desert deuce would look cool. I have a buddy is keeps voting for an put an Afrika Corp palm...
Erik's Surplus has plenty of A3 stuff. He might even have an A3 harness or an idea where to find or fix what you have. Erik answered a bunch of question for me on the power steering and other stuff I needed to tweak before I took my A3 on a cross country recovery. He was spot on with all of...
I bought an M35A3 this year and it is sooooooo tan. Someone took the time to CARC tan the thing out in a parking lot for it's trip to the war. It is generally tan and they painted over every stencil or mark on the truck.
They swapped on new steer tires and a new passenger seat and generally...
I am picking up my trailer from Ft. Lewis whenever they approve the EUC, can you even haul it home without tags? I am hoping to park it until the SF97 arirves and then get plates.
How heavy is real heavy? I have hauled some heavy stuff and huge trailers behind deuces in open country and have driven a fully loaded deuce fuel truck uphill on a gravel road and never had to do that. That fuel truck was a heavy pig on a good day.
I'd be happy to help anyone who breaks in my area. The problem is that I'm not a mechanic, nor do I have any real spare parts handy. I do have parking at the house for a broke truck and am willing to go an hour in pretty much any direction.
What kind of assistance are we hoping to have...
When we test ran small generators we hooked them up to either a bank of portable 1500 watt heaters or the load bank. Three heaters will give you close to 50% load, hook a table saw and cut some lumber or something to make it cycle a little and work.
Always use a ground, it takes about two...
I read a document from an officer who studied the ESP program and made some observations as to it's effectiveness. It noted that the three trucks salvaged for the construction of the two "NEW" A3's were typically much higher than the predicted 66% salvagable parts rate, usually closer to 79%...
Sorry about the rewrite, I was trying to make it friendlier and more to the point. ;)
I really like my deuce, at 48mph I am not out running anyone but it runs nice. I'm lucky on my truck that it had some random paperwork under the seats that showed the milage and hours over about four years...
I will agree with the Basset, there is at least one multi-fueler out there that made it past 100K. There are thousands of 3116's out there with 100K plus on them. My brother wrenched on A2's when he was in the army and when queried he felt the A3 was a better choice of deuce. He liked...
The lower GVW saves money so I am not complaining. Hauling a full five tons makes a deuce a slow propostion anyway. I paid the state minimum of 22,000 GVW when I registered mine.
I have to go with quotes are all over the board. My truck was running and I got quotes from $1.15 to $3.00 a mile. Requiring a winch and extra work adds more to the price.
As far as transporters off this board, I got one serious answer from an operator out of Texas and some questionable...
I missed five pages of chatter but I can tell you for certain that a good running A3 will pass any emissions test for 1993 trucks no problem. In Washington they max emissions is 40% opacity for diesels, mine was 8%.
When I went to the DOT website and registered, again no problems. Since it...
Wa state made me go commerical since my truck is an A3 and not old enough to be collectable. It was over 200 bucks for 22,000 GVW. 22K is the minimum weight they sell so you get to buy an extra ton and half.
No problems at all, the truck passed emissions testing with flying colors, the...
That was before my time, but it was not until the 80's that the military got serious about getting rid of as many mogas trucks as possible. My brother was doing engine swaps in deuces in the late 70's while he was wrenching in the army. He said they were swapping out gassers and non-turbos for...
I had Yancey Power do the service on mine when I bought it from Ft. Gillem. The guys in the shop loved it and it tuned to spec perfectly and runs like a demon. I also went sight unseen on my truck. I had my brother go look at the truck and he basically said it looked like a truck and that was...
